The pro-legal weed Hochul administration is quietly trying to fire up support for a complete ban on the sale of tobacco products in New York, The Post has learned.
The state Health Department commissioned a new survey aimed at gauging support for an all-out prohibition — despite Gov. Hochul’s failure to secure support from state legislators to include a ban on menthol cigarettes and other flavored tobacco products in the yet-to-be-approved state budget.
“What is your opinion about a policy that would end the sale of all tobacco products in New York within 10 years?” were among the questions asked last week in the “New York Local Opinion Leaders Survey,”

Ban tobacco and only criminals will have tobacco.
NY already has a huge organized crime business of getting cigs from no tax and selling them in NY.

Anyone who thinks inhaling cigarette smoke is dangerous, but you can inhale smoked cannabis with impunity is a dopehead.

Tell me again how republicans are the authoritarians and the threat to "democracy?" In the country that my ancestors fought to found and sustain you should be able to gargle with battery acid if you so desire but just don't ask your neighbors to clean up the mess.

Don't you love when these tyrants make attempts at trying to look as if they are merely opening up a discussion to see what the opinions are on various proposals? It's all a veneer, and we know it when we see it. I'm quite sure this ban is already well underway. Of course it's for the good of the children/people, as always.

So, instead of keeping thieves and murderers locked up, she will go after pot smokers. Great public safety measures.

No.5 has it exactly right! Why is it OK to fill your lungs with smoke from a weed, but not OK to smoke tobacco? It’s irrational. And by banning tobacco, the state loses tax revenue. Liberals are just plain stupid!

#1 nails it. I don’t see NY State giving up cigarette taxes to show how powerful they are. This has nothing to do with other people’s health.

When it comes to any decision like this you can bet leftists have an agenda. I have to assume that between tobacco bootlegging and reduced consumption the golden goose of tobacco taxes has been killed. That said, they have a new tax windfall in the form of marijuana sales and that's what they're shooting for now. There's also the possibility that the tobacco industry refused to give in to leftist extortion and this is their punishment.

i don't smoke. I don't like to be near people when smoking.
How about getting people to smoke less and understand what smoking does to the body.
At least, she has one thing right. it's a 10th Amendment issue (not a federal issue)

I used to smoke cigarettes, cigars, and tobacco pipes. But that was 50 years ago. After I watched my grandfather, aunts, uncles all die from lung cancer I assumed smoking was not a good idea and I quit cold turkey.
I don't like the smell of people's breath that smoke and am glad that smoking is banned in most public places. The stink that lingers in homes and cars I find unpleasant. The cost of smoking is expensive both personally and to society in the form of health care. There are so many down sides of tobacco smoking.
But, smoking is a PERSONAL CHOICE and I am more repulsed by laws controlling personal choice than all the unpleasant aspects of smoking.

Y' gotta see the bigger picture. The Democrats ARE the party of organized crime. New York state already has the highest incidence of smuggled cigarettes. You can be sure that the Party is getting their share already in the form of money laundered campaign contributions and individual kickbacks. This latest move is an obvious attempt to create a larger and more lucrative black market.

Legalize dope, but ban tobacco.....now THAT'S pretty seriously nutso. Tobacco isn't good for you, definitely, but I don't think it rots your brain.
So brain rot is OK, lung damage, that is PROHIBITED!

Cigarette Tourism will become a big thing all along the New York border states! Every store just across the NY border will offer cigarettes at cut rate prices. Indian casinos and reservations will also make big profits on selling cigarettes since they are not usually considered state land. Just think of all the cigarette tax revenue the State of New York will lose. Hochul will find something else to tax in place of cigarettes that isn't already taxed like water or breathing air.

One must ask the question how much Airhead Hochul is being paid by organized crime to put forth such a moronic piece of legislation ? Must be enough to fund her next campaign,

Tobacco doesn’t make the nuts nuttier. It’s the green stuff that was just legalized that cause the brain damage. The drugs and needles should be banned also.
