SpaceX claims it pulled the trigger that exploded Starship mid-air Thursday during its second attempt at an orbital flight. The massive 395-foot stack, comprised of the Super Heavy booster and Starship, launched at 9:33 am ET for its first orbital launch but burst into flames four minutes after takeoff. While Elon Musk's company activated the flight termination system, the Super Heavy massive craft failed to separate, sending it into an uncontrolled death spin.

They make it sound like Space-X deliberately sabotaged the launch vehicle. No. You destroy an out of control rocket so that it doesn't crash and explode over inhabited areas.

Yep. The Range Safety Officer has a destruct capability if a rocket goes out of control. This has been normal for as far back as I can remember, the early 60s.

For any aspiring astronaut out there here's one for you. Each space craft has a detonation system. You get a spaceship that malfunctions and instead of going up, goes parallel and aims for a school with children in it or the nearest downtown, if your aboard, you'd better have your affairs in order. Because NASA, SpaceX and any other space system is NOT going to let that happen. Don't worry. It'll be quick and will probably occur on or above the grounds of liftoff.

since there was doubt that this huge rocket would get off the launchpad at all - with some of engines actually not participating - i can see why the test was thought to bear positive fruit. when SpaceX tries again in a few months we can map the project's further progress. it was exciting to watch yesterday and the enthusiasm of SpaceX folks on the ground was inspiring and infectious. with so many incompetents and mental duds peopling our tv screens as leaders and experts, it was nice to see American ingenuity and forward-thinking on parade. nice!

Hizzoner took to the stage at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in Midtown and put on a painter’s suit and glasses — spoofing the late comedian John Gallagher who famously smashed watermelons during his act. “I have enlisted a new rat czar,” Adams told to the crowd, referencing his recent appointment of Department of Education rodent fighter Kathleen Corradi to the unique city title.
