Living in the land of denial doesn’t automatically come with a passport. It does, however, require a commitment to suspend reality. Take California… please. If Ronald Reagan's America was a shining city on a hill, then California is the state that has been living in the darkest corner of its shadows. In actuality, it's a place that resembles one of its most famous residents -- Disneyland -- in that it has managed to create its own mythology and then live according to its own set of fantasy-based rules.

I wasn't last but I made it out. Life is better in almost every way after living there most of my life.
No need to turn off the lights, though. They'll go dark when the power fails. Again.

#3 beat me to it. No need to turn off the lights. The power failures will take care of that.

The Feds have now made 'an exception' and have propped up SVB, guaranteeing that all depositors will now get all their money back (so much for our banking regulations that only safeguarded up to $250K per depositor).
I learned yesterday that among those depositors who stand (once stood?) to lose a boatload of cash from SVB is none other than Governor Brylcreem, himself. He was on the phone - early - to the White House, begging for that exception. The author is absolutely correct - there was a time... But this is no longer Ronald Reagan's California.

I would no sooner leave California than leave America. The Golden State is as much my birthright as the United States. Take a look around, fellow patriots, and be honest. What is the state of our dear country under President Brandon? California is just the canary in the coal mine. TK and I heard that bird song back in the early 90's and purposely bought the homestead. After 23 years out here in the forest we're self-sufficient supplying our own water and power, along with long-term supplies stored away. When push comes to shove, dinner hops across the front yard every night.
I'm making my stand here to make California Golden again, so that we can Make America Great Again!

Thank you #7. It is sad that so many people (because of the lack of good leadership) are cheering the demise of things. That is buying into what the Democrats are trying to achieve. California represents emotional things for me and it is different in comparison to a birthright. My grandma, dad, and brother all lived in California but are no longer here. Where it gets emotional for me is that my brother is buried at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside.
Here, here. Make California Golden Again!

And I have one more comment. I guess I am getting tired of all of the antics with politics for one reason. All of this is God's creation and people have become so careless and reckless. God gives us a wonderful creation and so many beautiful things in it and what do we humans do with it? We seem to be really good at messing it up. . .

After reading #1s comment my thought was how petty, then I read the article and now see his point.

I admire your courage and resourcefulness, #7, and hope that you can somehow escape the coming tax burden that will be imposed upon the current tax burden. Your government is made up of pirates.

"every man's a king."
Hilarious. Now every man's a slave, at least the overly suntanned, and none of them know what slavery was except for the Chinese who were kidnapped to build the railroads. To add to the cliches, California has always been the land of fruits and nuts and there is no sign of that ever changing.

Agree with #7.
Lady Chihuahua and I had a discussion. If money weren't an issue, where would we live? We quickly reached the same conclusion: Preferably someplace warm in the United States that speaks English.
What does one do in a harsh environment of unrest, uncertainty, bad investments, scam investments, and weak currency? Simple answer: Prepare. Seriously, where does one put their savings in this environment? Not sure there is a good answer. Everything seems to be on a shaky foundation.

Growing up in the Bay Area I can remember the occasional power outages, lanterns and camp stoves, candles, and fires in the fireplace. That was rare and short lived. Then I moved to the mountains and had a generator before I moved in. Power can be out for a week here for no obvious reason. Right now, two days after a fairly normal strong windy rainstorm, a huge section of the Silicon (Silicone, haha!) Valley is still without power. PG&E's resources are quite drained by all the lawsuits, over-regulation, and solar installations.

Before you bad-mouth Cal anymore despite it screwed up political culture - go to your local grocery store and just imagine if the fresh produce department was completely empty lest you forget that a lot of it is grown in the Golden State. The land of plenty. Yes, I have my own gripes with my home state of Colorado, too, and very serious concerns about biden the cheater and the deep state. But where else in this world are you going to go where everything is absolutely jim dandy. Instead, how about launching a mass-American commitment to restore America. Oh, and by the way, "In God We Trust", right?

Now, on top of all of their other problems, the SF city council just approved the $5 million reparations for each black resident of the city. Talk about suicidal! But I guess that not a single member of the council would have dared to vote against it.
