Former Pentagon officials have been left scratching their heads by the Biden administration's decision not to neutralize a Chinese spy balloon floating over U.S. mainland.
David Stillwell, who served as Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs under the Trump administration, told DailyMail.com the balloon was likely form of mind game by Beijing ahead of the meeting between Sec. Antony Blinken and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
'This demonstrates a common tactic by Beijing to test others before important meetings.'
He noted that in 2007 the Chinese shot an anti-satellite weapon before then-Defense Sec. Robert Gates arrived in the nation. The U.S. didn't cancel, but 'should have,' Stillwell said.

Our military has been basically destroyed. That's why China knows what it can get away with.

Excellent question. Milley should be fired over this debacle.

It’sa trial balloon testing their equipment for a future attack on our electric grid and nuclear facilities. A dry targeting and intelligence gathering mission testing is to see if we will do anything to stop them. Which we won’t.

If our "defense" department is not interested in stopping a slow-moving foot invasion, how likely are we to try to stop a slow-floating spy balloon?

Looks like Chi and Biden discussed it first and inasmuch as Biden cannot make any independent decision, Chi is of course calling the shots. As to Milley Vanilli. he is a full strength nut job and commie plant.

Chinese spy balloon may be carrying cash for the Bidens, which is why Joe couldn’t give the order to shoot it down. Paraphrasing the Air Force Brigadier Apologist, the cash would be spread over 400 square miles, making it impossible to retrieve. Joe would never allow that.
The fear of the possible shoot down could explain why Joe had to take out the $250,000 home equity loan.

You must be kidding! You're worried about a balloon that might be carrying a new virus strain.
About 50 CCP satellites are overhead the US every hour with enough resolution to get your license plate number and follow your travels anytime.

Why was it not detected by NORAD before it entered U.S. territory? Was someone asleep at the switch?

From the photos it appears that the Chinese ballon is mooning the USA. We need a real authority on ballons. Such as my congress critter, Hank Johnson. Hank's expertise is not limited to island stability. He also spends lots of time fretting over our stockpile of helium. If we run out of helium there will be none for birthday party ballons or the Good Year blimp. That ballon could be a valuable source of precious heloum.

Actually #8, no offense, but that's nonsense. There are hard physics reasons that it is impossible to read a license plate or identify a person from orbit with current technology. I have discussed this with a satellite optics designer a number of years ago, and he explained the limits of resolution.
If you actually care, maximum possible resolution is related to the size of the primary lens or mirror being used, and the wavelengths of visible light. With a very large mirror, say 15 feet, the maximun theoretical resolution with is about six inches from low earth orbit. So each pixel would cover a six inch square, and would be one uniform color.
To read a 3 inch license plate numeral would require at least three or better four pixels for that 3 inches, so 1 inch pixels or smaller. For that resolution a mirror 45 to 60 feet in diameter is required. The laws of physics can't be gotten around. Currently, nobody can launch a mirror that big. The Hubble telescope mirror is a bit smaller than 8 ft across. So, even the Hubble would have about 12 inch pixels, and probably could barely tell a car from a pickup, certainly not read a license.
There are lots of "everybody knows" things on the internet that are pure malarkey, physically impossible. Thus is just one example.

Glad it was not a missile with a nuclear payload. That could have ruined Montana's day.
