The media’s road to ruin its own credibility

Nearly seven years after most media abandoned standards of fairness in a stampede to defeat Donald Trump, it is widely accepted that those outlets can not be trusted to deliver accurate reports. Rather than perform the journalists’ duty of informing the public of news, many of today’s reporters and editors concoct narratives about events that consistently align with the agenda of the Democratic Party.
This overt embrace of partisanship is a major factor in two developments roiling the nation. The first is a hardening of polarization that deeply divides voters

Goodwin writes to praise an exhaustive inspection of the news media by Jeff Gerth.
"Gerth’s work stands out as the definitive account of the origin of this modern nightmare and is uniquely valuable because he builds a brick-by-brick case. Reading the 26,000-word, multi-part project requires a commitment, but the payoff is total clarity."
I don't agree. I believe it's an important effort in a process of introspection and self-awareness the media desperately need, but it's imperfect and doesn't address the deep bias that induces such shoddy journalism.
Gerth's report is in the Columbia Journalism Review in four lengthy sections. Reading it (I'm not even halfway through) is a great refresher. Gerth is a NYT reporter, though, and it seeps through.
For example, in Part One Gerth points to a 2015 interview Trump had with Sean Hannity in which Trump says he "had contact" with Putin, but answered "I don't want to say" when Hannity asked directly if Trump and Putin talked or met face to face. Here's the transcript of that interview: https://www.foxnews.com/transcript/exclusive-donald-trump-on-what-made-him-run-for-president-on-hannity
It happens twice in the interview, and clearly means what Gerth writes, "Trump, as he acknowledged at a debate in October 2016, didn’t know Putin." Trump was saying no comment.
However, leading off Part Four of his work, Gerth writes,
"Trump, in July 2018, finally had a summit meeting with Vladimir Putin, the man he mistakenly claimed in 2015 to have met years earlier and his supposed puppet master, according to Steele’s dossier."
This is plainly untrue, and very unfortunate, but very telling. As Yoda might say of Jeff Gerth, "The bias is strong in this one." Indeed it's hard to imagine that Gerth could work so long for the Old Gray Lady and be immune to the rot, and he isn't, it turns out, despite his talent and industry.
Most historians through the millenniums, however, clearly promoted a particular view, and like them Gerth's work is nevertheless valuable, and at the moment stands pretty much alone in its comprehensiveness and candor. It's well to remember he is a NYT reporter, even so, and I'd reserve Goodwin's words "definitive" and "total clarity" for a different generation of investigative reporting.

Again. Remember Trump's words - It is YOU they hate. I am merely in the way. The Media's war was/is on We the People. If you don't understand that you have understood nothing.

#2, you are correct when you quoted President Trump, “It is YOU they hate. I am merely in the way.”
Trump is the only President in my entire life who delivered on his promises. Politicians give us lip service but rarely do they do the meaningful things they promise. He did and there is no denying his success. Before you say it, I know he has his flaws, don’t we all? Have you ever listened to his detractors? They are vicious. Democrats, the media and self serving Rinos need a cudgel and this is the one they constantly wield against him. Frankly, it is getting very old considering the corrupt thieves working in this government both elected and unelected. He cannot hold a candle to their illegal and heinous actions much less their hateful rhetoric. Yet, he is the bad guy? One reason the base is loyal is because PDT kept his promises. We also believe he would never sell out the country and its people, unlike this present illegitimate administration. Is he perfect, absolutely not, but he is not a corrupt politician who would lie to us or use his position to benefit himself at the expense of the country. He also is not a crook. The Rinos have one weapon they use when it comes to him, he’s unpresidential. Well, he sure is and thank God because he fights for this country and its people which I believe is very presidential. If you want a smooth talking liar, he is not your man, but if you want someone you know will not buckle under the attacks coming from the left and foolish Rinos, he is the guy you want fighting for you. It would be foolish to back someone whose first priority is to do the bidding of big business and the Rinos class who want the prestige and perks but don’t have the courage to put this country first nor do they want to if truth be told.
While the media is obsessed with Trump, Rinos are just as focused. They want him out of politics because he is a constant reminder of their total failure. Democrats and traitorous Rinos have an insatiable lust for wealth and power at any cost. They have ruined this nation and will continue to wage war against their own people to benefit themselves and their outrageous political ideology. We can either stop nitpicking the best shot we have of restoring this country or we can accept the status quo and witness its complete and total collapse. Democrats and rinos along with the lying media can rest in the knowledge that, at least, the status quo of abject corruption continues. And who will be in their evil sights when Trump is off the scene, that’s right Conservatives.

"Road to ruin"? How about just "ruined". My wife still reads the book for the activities of our kids but when she reads the propaganda they label as news I read her the truth on investigative news sites like Lucianne. She cannot believe that a stock price that has dropped this much still continues the false narrative charade.

All in all, neither gerth nor goodwin can bring themselves to say that these institutions have ceased to be journalistic and are now purely propagandistic. They both are too biased and can only write about “bad journalism.”
FTA: “ He makes a smart suggestion in urging the Times and others to do post-mortems on their flawed coverage and cites as a model the paper’s probe into how it came to wrongly conclude Saddam Hussein had nuclear weapons in the run-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq.”
That was easy for the Times, attacking American actions. Attacking people who are attacking America would be impossible.
How blind gerth and goodwin are.

Rinktum must have read my mind this morning. I agree with everything she said.
Here's the reasons I believe why there's been such vicious attacks for 6 years on our beloved President Trump.
1. He ran for office for the right reason. Not for prestige or for the money or for the power.
2. President Trump loves our Country and wants our Country to become better/great!
3. President Trump is like the everyday American (he identifies with us) and that's why the Left hates him. He's not the Elite!
4. Also as a Real Estate Builder, President Trump knows about business and what it takes to become successful, unlike Biden and others who have never held a job in the private sector.
5. President Trump tells the Truth. He does what he says. He calls a spade a spade and that is what drives the Left insane. They live in the Dark and PDT lives in the Light. Demons hate the Light.
