Minneapolis - Crews of state and county workers spent hours clearing a large tent encampment in Minneapolis on Wednesday morning, forcing out those who’d been staying there for months. The sprawling camp in Cedar-Riverside near 15th Ave. S and Sixth St. S had more than 80 tents at the time of eviction. Notably, it was recently equipped with portable toilets after City Council Member Jamal Osman and his staff pleaded for almost two months for state and city government to provide them. Unlike recent encampment sweeps done by the city of Minneapolis, this closure was carried out by state and county

It took a murder for someone to act and clear the place out.

Minneapolis is one of our most prominent ****hole cities. When Trump said that descriptive word, it was absolutely the most fitting choice. I dislike even transiting the Minneapolis airport.

NEW YORK — As the day approaches, a number of New York lawmakers have pushed the state to recognize Lunar New Year as a public holiday. Assemblymember William Colton introduced a bill on the subject in the 2021-2022 legislative session. He and Assemblymember Grace Lee, who was elected in November of 2022, have pushed for the calendar change. Colton plans to reintroduce his bill in the next legislative session. He’s said declaring Lunar New Year as a public holiday will promote increased awareness of both Asian history and tradition. “This bill is personal to me as an Asian American and

Shoppers across the nation have been scrambling for months to keep up with soaring egg prices. Prices continue to skyrocket – up 60% in December from a year earlier. Last year, the average price for a dozen large Grade A eggs in the U.S. was $1.93 in January. By December, when egg demand peaked, the price surged to $4.25. The high prices prompted a "He went to Kroger" meme, with an egg in place of an engagement ring in the "He went to Jared" jewelry advertisement. Here's when we can expect egg prices to drop and what we can do in

Behind the five-decade low US unemployment rate of 3.5% lies a 2.6 million-person mystery. That’s roughly how many more Americans should be working or looking for jobs if the economy’s labor force participation rate was the same as before the Covid-19 pandemic. But something’s still off, leaving everyone from mom-and-pop businesses to Federal Reserve economists scrambling to answer a crucial question: Where are these workers? Economist Raj Chetty and his big-data experts at Harvard University’s Opportunity Insights lab went looking for these missing people. Their research relies on an innovative method of tracking the economy, built in the early months

Holiday sales came in below industry expectations, as shoppers felt pinched by inflation and rising interest rates, according to data from the National Retail Federation. Sales during November and December grew 5.3% year over year to $936.3 billion, below the major trade group’s prediction for growth of between 6% and 8% over the year prior. In early November, NRF had projected spending of between $942.6 billion and $960.4 billion. (Snip) The holiday sales gains include the impact of inflation, which drives up total sales. Champagne corks are popping in Vice President Kamala Harris’s office as Buttigieg’s problems appear to be wrecking his chances to replace President Biden on the 2024 Democratic ticket if Biden chooses not to run. San Francisco’s reparations committee has proposed paying each Black longtime resident $5 million and granting total debt forgiveness due to the decades of "systematic repression" faced by the local Black community. The San Francisco African American Reparations Advisory Committee, which advises the city on developing a plan for reparations for Black residents, released its draft report last month to address reparations – not for slavery, since California was not technically a slave state, but "to address the public policies explicitly created to subjugate Black people in San Francisco by upholding and expanding the intent and legacy of chattel slavery."

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — For the second time in a month, a Colorado library has closed its doors to clean up methamphetamine contamination. Officials in the Denver suburb of Englewood shut down the city library last week within a couple of hours of getting test results Wednesday showing that the contamination in the facility’s restrooms exceeded state thresholds, city spokesman Chris Harguth said. Other spaces such as countertops also tested positive for lower levels of the drug and will require specialized cleaning, he said. The larger-scale remediation work will include removing tainted surfaces, walls, ductwork and exhaust fan equipment. The city

We have waited since early May to discover the identity of the thief and the true motive for leaking it out. Chief Justice John Roberts promised a thorough investigation to get to the bottom of the crime. What did he find out? Well … it was an inside job — which everyone pretty much assumed from the start. And that’s pretty much it. The court threw its hands in the air just a few minutes ago, apparently for good: The Supreme Court announced
