Kevin McCarthy Finally becomes Speaker
on 15th ballot after violent scenes in
Congress: Republicans had to be held back
from rebel Matt Gaetz on second anniversary
of January 6, following four days of farce

On the 15th ballot over a series of four days, Rep. Kevin McCarthy finally won the coveted title: Speaker of the House. 'That was easy, huh?' McCarthy began in his victory speech - shortly after South Carolina Representative Mike Rogers had to be held back from attacking Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz. The two Republicans almost came to blows over Gaetz's refusal to back McCarthy during the 14th vote, costing him that contest, with the violent clash coming as tempers frayed over the mammoth voting-process.

The list of "concessions" McCarthy yielded to are hardly controversial from a conservative viewpoint. They are standard conservative base items and about dm time. If it took 14 votes to get them fine with me. You know he won't do move the ball one inch to the right beyond the concessions.

Please tell me what makes McCarthy soooo special that he needed to humiliate the Republican party with 15 rounds of voting. Is he the Republican "Heismen trophy" winner ready to lead us to the Championship .....or the 'owner's' favorite son (US Chamber, K St Lobbyists, etc). And while you're at it, let me know why there was zero consequences for leadership --- McConnell, McCarthy & Ronna Romney -- for their failure in at least the last two election cycles.

The definition of insanity: doing things the way they have always been done, and expecting different results. Trump has been our only attempt at change, and so much changed in four short years! The Uniparty is jerking us back into line, and many republicans thoughtlessly comply. "Mr. Gaetz goes to Washington." And they held him under water in the swamp.

I appreciate the Representatives who held out for some long overdue changes to how Washington works. It took 15 votes to accomplish this. So what? Republicans have never marched in lockstep like the Democrats do. This can be good and bad. There wasn’t one Democrat who would dare not vote for Jeffries whether they liked him or not.

I saw a lot of people talking to Gaetz after the vote, but I didn't see any confrontation that required someone to be held back. Who did Gaetz want as speaker? That's one thing in watching I never heard. I think people were getting frustrated because the 20 or so who were holding out seemed to be happy with the concessions that McCarthy agreed to, and Gaetz and Borbert holding out seemed to them to as if they were throwing a tantrum. They got what they wanted from McCarthy, so move on.

Folks, Mike Rogers did NOT have to be held back from attacking Gaetz. The fact that there's a picture of the sergeant-at-arms HOLDING him back and that many of you take that picture as proof of Rogers' intent is why political discourse is so toxic these days and the dumbing-down of America is so easy. Believing what you're told to believe, whether by outright verbal lies to your face or graphic insinuation. If you actually watched the proceedings like the T-Tucky nerds did way late last night, you would know that Mike Rogers simply - and calmly . . . with no malice evident on his face or in his body language - came down the aisle and was leaning in to say something when he was weirdly grabbed from behind by this guy who also put his hand on Rogers' face and neck. It looked totally unnecessary. But I'm not as psychically prescient as these wise DC insiders, pundits, politicians, and pontificaters are, so maybe what's captured in this one still image really is about what one man might do instead of what one swamp system wants people who didn't watch it live to believe. Have ya'll heard about the violent J6 protesters?

The majestic structures of ancient Rome have survived for millennia — a testament to the ingenuity of Roman engineers, who perfected the use of concrete. But how did their construction materials help keep colossal buildings like the Pantheon (which has the world's largest unreinforced dome) and the Colosseum standing for more than 2,000 years? Roman concrete, in many cases, has proven to be longer-lasting than its modern equivalent, which can deteriorate within decades. Now, scientists behind a new study say they have uncovered the mystery ingredient that allowed the Romans to make their construction material so durable and build elaborate structures in challenging places such as docks, sewers and earthquake zones.
