An NYPD officer on his first day on the job was stabbed in the head with a machete by a 19-year-old who investigators believe may be an Islamic extremist during New Year's Eve celebrations near Times Square.
The attack happened just after 10 p.m. about eight blocks from Times Square, just outside of the high-security zone where thousands of revelers were screened for weapons as they prepared to ring in 2023.
Trevor Bickford, 19, of Wells, Maine, allegedly approached the officers on 8th Avenue between 51st and 52nd streets armed with a large knife that he used to slash two of them, Commissioner Keechant Sewell said at an overnight press conference.

You don’t stab with a machete you chop and slash with it.

Why would they “rush” the slasher him to a hospital? Should have taken the long way around, perhaps a shortcut through Vermont.

Just the latest in a long line of sudden jihad attacks.
British media covered it because American media won’t. Traitors.

I’ve never understood why anyone goes to Times Square on New Year’s Eve. Why spend hours standing in the cold with hundreds of thousands of packed in people, no bathrooms and thugs everywhere just to see that ball drop when you get a much better view at home on your television.

"Suspected Islami terrorist"?? Come on man. Islam and terror are two words not allowed next to each other. Youths, folks, some people are the allowed terms.

I saw that "machete" on the news last night and thought it looked more like a kukri knife made famous by the Gurkas

I never understood why people go to crowd events either, but my former daughter-in-law was one of those who had to be where "the action was."
New Year's Eve parties have always felt like an "air of desperation" for me. You must have a good time and as a result they were less enjoyable than any other party. I was glad when close friends decided to go out to dinner, get home early, get lots of sleep so that New Year's Day was very pleasant -- a great way to start the new year.
When we now have people pouring into our country, many with nefarious intent, huge crowds could be risky.

Amen. I read that headline and also knew you can't "stab" with a machete, so I went looking a picture of the knife in question. Sure looks like a modern, dumbed-down, commercial version of a kukri to me.
You would think a British paper would be better at identifying a kukri, since the Gurkhas were (and still are) legendary fighters in the British military.

Other reports said the FBI has been “monitoring” this guy for months. They probably had to back off to concentrate on dangerous parents at school board meeting meetings, or misinformation on Twitter.

The article says the attack was "unprovoked". Being non-mussie is automatically provocation since they are commanded to kill all infidels.

How many does this make now? All of them? Tell me the FIB doesn't know these things will happen but stopping them isn't in the narrative.

This guy seems to be a home grown jihadi. Things are going to get much worse as we find out that many of the illegals crossing our Biden-Border are bent on reeking large scale havoc here in America. The worst is yet to come.

The media doesn't know any more about knives than they do guns. Like another poster said, it is a Gurkha knife, traditionally carried by Nepalese warriors. As a machete they would be about worthless.

They called it a Machete because they do not want ANYONE confusing Gurkhas with Radical Muslim/Arab/Persian/homegrown Islamic Terrorists...nor Sikhs with them either.
Besides, none know chit about knives....or guns.
He's on a watchlist, his MOM called in the FBI on him, still...though he is from Maine, lives in Seattle, he somehow ends up in NYC. Strange is it not just how MANY of these "Lone/Known Wolf attacks are launched by radicals habituated in Seattle.

I was taken to NYC as a child, stayed on Central ave west, for a week at the highrise home of a famous musician my mother dated a bit, saw the parks, the museums, the galleries, was inbued with the Awe of "What men hath wraught". I went as a 16-17yp to times square for NYE, it was ugly, dirty, scary, dangerous...I made my mind up to NEVER visit NYC again.
Did go back, because a woman I was dating really wanted to go, had never been...(methinks in hindsight what she really wanted was for me to take her "shopping" and to be able to tel her friends about it, show off in the new designer threads) It was clean safe, fun, happy people, Guliani had happened.
Today? It is dirty, ugly, scary,Dangerous...and CNN is running a story "What happened to Giuliani" tarring him as a psycho, loser, 'destroyer of worlds'

You can bet that there were hundreds of armed New York City police officers on duty around Times Square when the Muslim perpetrated those assaults on police officers, with what media photographs showing that his weapon was a kukri knife and not a machete. It’s obvious under the circumstances that by attacking at least three of those police officers with a kukri knife seriously wounding at least one of the officers was an attempted suicide by cop. As once he attacked those police officers with that kukri knife it would be just a matter of seconds before the police officers would shoot him.

Right, #22.
A machete is made for cutting through jungles.
A kukri is made for cutting through people.
