Alex Jones has been ordered to pay a total of $965 million in damages to the plaintiffs of the defamation trial surrounding his lies about the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting. The 15 plaintiffs of the case included the relatives of eight Sandy Hook victims, as well as a former FBI agent suing Jones.
A Connecticut jury reached a unanimous verdict Wednesday afternoon before the judge read aloud a detailed report of the various damages owed to each plaintiff by Jones and his media company, Free Speech Systems.
Jones had already been found liable for defamation for spreading disinformation about the shooting, which killed 20

Two things...
1. Jones is an idiot.
2. He is entitled to prove it with his speech. The sales of products not-withstanding (could be legitimate trade issues there), this appears to be mostly 'he said something bad that was not true' and the real purveyors of lies must have felt some encroachment upon their franchise sufficient to give him the financial death penalty.

Sorry folks, he has already hidden most of his lucre. Pleading poverty will heard in short order.

As the previous poster said, Jones isn't the world's brightest boy.
He also doesn't have a billion sitting around, either. Sounds to me that the only folks that are gonna get any money are the lawyers. On both sides.

This is THE message to purveyors of people found deficient by the globalists official approvers. This may be against Alex Jones, but it is also against all of us. Don’t think that this won’t have a chilling effect on those who espouse ideas, beliefs, or facts that do not comport with the narrative that globalists enslavers. How long until we are left with no choice.
“… all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.” - Thomas Jefferson, Declaration of Independence

Sounds excessive to me. Won't be surprised if the amount eventually gets significantly reduced.

Jones is an absolute moron, but this ruling is a farce. The justice system in the US has become a mockery of the original intentions. This case should have been tossed immediately on its submission.

Americans are free to hold whatever opinions they like, and may express them freely provided they agree with the stated positions of the government and cannot be found to hurt anyone's feelings in any way.

Any discussion about irregularities in the 2022 election is usually accompanied by the words "baseless" and "discredited," for the same reason. First they came for Alex Jones, and I said nothing.

Color me one who saw enough information at the time that I concluded this could have been a false flag set up by the government.

Apparently, Jones likes to run his mouth. Saying something that can be easily disproven is just stupid, but people do it every day.
Does anyone think they are actually going to collect? What are the odds this is a ploy to shut him down?

Excellent. I'm a near absolutist on the First Amendment, but this was a clear case of defamation -- accusing people of perpetrating a fraud. It was demonstrably false, and he knew it was false and continued to lie about them. Anyone who says otherwise, ask yourself how you would respond to someone repeatedly telling millions of people that you molest little children. I hope the judgment stands and I hope he spends every day of his miserable life paying it off. From a political standpoint, he gave the left tons of ammunition to portray everyone on our side as insane and I despise him for that as well.

Not to change the subject, but you have to wonder how much Hillary Clinton would have to pay Trump over her dirty dealings behind the bogus so-called Steele dossier if the matter ever comes before a legitimate non politicized Judge and Jury?

the lawyers are the biggest winners in this lawsuit and as a Prof in Grad School said one day in class: the people should sue the lawyers for frivolous torts against them and that would be automatic tort reform without legislation

#12 - does that mean that the family of the truck driver Joe Biden defamed for years claiming that he was a drunk driver who killed Joe's first wife and daughter can sue Biden for everything he's worth? For the record, the first Mrs. Biden ran a stop sign and was at fault in the accident.

He's an idiot. I stopped reading his site years ago, about the same time I quit reading Glenn Beck. And for the same reason. Everything is an emotional appeal designed to keep people in a panic and stirred up. Its true. The democrat communists aren't the only ones who do it.
As far as I'm concerned he's free to say anything he wants, no matter how stupid. And I'm free not to listen to it.

A lawyer friend of mine likes to remind me of an old judge who would hear his cases. Before the trial, the Judge would have a meeting of the parties and their lawyers.
The Judge would point out a ceramic cow on his desk and say, Now you Mr Plantiff, you're holding this cow by the neck and trying to pull it your way. And you Mr Defendant, you're holding the cow by the tail pulling it your way.
I just want you to know that while the two of you are pulling on the cow, both of your lawyers are sitting on stools, milking the cow dry.

#1, I have a SERIOUS problem with the Plaintiffs "claiming" that they received "death threats" and other "hate" acts from people they don't even know. Was there proof provided to their local Police? Were the ones alleged to have made those death threats arrested, charged, tried, convicted?
There is very BAD tendency brewing here herein leftists can throw up the "I received 'death threats' from imaginary MAGA Republicans," and it's immediate grounds for a lawsuit against any purveyor of conservative opinion, who has offended their sacred cow.

On the one hand, his speech was plainly wrong.
But on the other hand, so has most everything said by Schiff, Pelosi, Liz Cheney, and... I could go on.
When do THOSE miscreants cough up money for their lies. (and don't get me started on Michael Brown and BLM)

I may not agree with what you have to say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.
ANYTHING less is un-American.
Wholly, completely totally anti-American.
Even in Maui.

if all we were allows to say is what's popular or approved by the government, we wouldn't need a First Amendment
If spreading false information was actionable, most news outlets and papers would be out of business. This is what happens in a one party Communist state.
