No one imagined this was feasible. Every expert put the timeline for repair at around a year. However, the git r’ done crews and the Florida Dept of Transportation have accomplished a massive feat of reconstruction in phenomenal time. Major kudos to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the construction crews who worked every hour of every day, day and night, for two straight weeks and have created/built a temporary bridge to Sanibel Island.

When elected officials intentionally set the conditions for capitalism to succeed, and then get out of the way to let the free market work, the results can be stunningly praiseworthy. Governor DeSantis understands the benefit of reducing the burden of bureaucratic red tape. We need his brand of leadership multiplied at local, state, and federal levels everywhere throughout the USA.

Remember that one earthquake damaged expressway in California? The gov't there set aside racial quotas and cut a deal that gave an economic incentive (money) for the contractor to beat the estimated deadline. The highway got put back in service in record time. Someone should write that down and remember it for the next time.

Apparently, the democrat press is at it again. Lots of blackout on this good news and ANY good news about relief efforts. DeSantis is doing an incredible job, and the media is doing its best to keep it quiet and continue its own misery narrative about how awful things are~~so tired of Americans being victims of circumstances instead of victors over circumstances. I want to see the latter on TV. The ones who still fly the flag outside the wreckage (Oklahoma tornado folks--I love ya!). You're my people!

Finally. Someone posted video of how they are repairing the little island in the middle of the causeway that was swept away, taking the road with it. All the footage I've seen so far was of the concrete spans that in, most cases, were not the problem. Look in the Comments under the article for "47Yinzer October 12, 2022 9:18 am Good aerial view of the entire causeway here:" I hope when they make the permanent repairs they continue the spans here, rather than making another surface road on, essentially, a sand bar. What with sinking pilings and all that, I am sure this was considered cost-effective at the time, but here's the consequence.

Sounds like the kind of effort that typified the Army Corps of Engineers and Navy Seabees during WWII. Just remember that it's not a permanent fix; do a more thorough repair once the dire situation eases.

Further repairs to the causeway will commence after the convoy. FDOT is working to restore access to the public ASAP.

Despite evidence to the contrary, there is the continued belief that there were no weapons of mass destruction found in Iraq. Between the Democrats, the media who serve as their propagandist, and those who have an irrational hatred of George W. Bush, there has been a refusal to give up the lie that nothing was found in Iraq. One of the reasons given by former President Bush for going into Iraq – beyond Hussein’s government funding international terrorist activities that did target Americans – was weapons of mass destruction were in fact found. In other words, the weapons were not the only reason, but also the financing of international terrorism.

Can Republicans move beyond just completing the original, necessary Trump agenda on closing the border, legal-only immigration, deterrence against China, energy production, immunity from optional military engagements in the Middle East, industrial and manufacturing resurgence in the Rust Belt and conservative judicial appointments? What would such a new Contract with America entail, if it were indeed wise before the midterms to advertise such a confident, Newt Gingrich-like strategy for regaining the House? And should a menu be more rather than less detailed? What about the follow-up for a later Republican presidency?

The Treasury Department is auditing the migrant flights authorized by Governor Ron DeSantis to assess whether the expenditures were appropriate. In response to a petition from Democratic lawmakers, the department’s inspector general wrote in an October 7 letter that the agency would investigate whether Florida misused federal funds to relocate illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard. The DeSantis administration has maintained that the trips were approved on a bipartisan basis by the state legislature in a budget package many months ago. Richard K.
