Next up on the Supreme Court's agenda:
Affirmative action

Progressives who are still reeling from the end of Roe v Wade are already expecting the worst from the Supreme Court’s next term which starts next week. One of the big issues the court will be considering in the next term is affirmative action in college admissions. Time published a primer yesterday. The high court will hear two cases this term that could determine the constitutionality of race-conscious admissions policies—and the decision could fundamentally reshape higher education across America. The high court will hear both cases on Oct. 31. The group Students for Fair Admissions, which says its mission is to help “restore colorblind principles to our nation’s schools, colleges and universities,”

Affirmative Action hurts all students. This is the reason. As a professor,I was fced with making grading decisions about all of my studnets, including AA admits. In most instances, the AA students achieved at a much lower level than whites and Asians. But if I graded on that basis, I would be giving final grades toAA srudents which were much lower than the other students. So I dropped my standards for all students, in order to move those AA students through my courses. Course content suffered, standards suffered. And Universities have not figured out how to deal with that. Sandra Day O'Connor's decision in the Michigsn Law School case, with the 25 year postulation, was one of the absolutely stupidest decsisions in the history of the Court. It was her final case prior to retirement, and she destroyed a lifetime of work with that decision.

It’s about time. Sixty years ago some people needed help just to gain access to professional programs at universities or executive track positions in corporations but three generations of preference is enough.

I've already got the answer; Wasn't it the gooberment that told universities that they had to diversify their admittance policies? You can ONLY accept just soooo many super brilliant students. these non-reasoning libs just do not get it that it was/is their OWN policies that this is about.

All these illegalities, Roe V Wade, Affirmative Action, Title IX. Even the egregious abusive overreach of the Commerce Clause All have a common source. It is Griswold vs Connecticut. I have only a literate layman's understanding. But it is enough to tell me that we must strike at this tap root.

AA is institutionalized racism. It denies admission to those that qualify while accepting those that don't, all of it based on the color of ones skin. Same thing with jobs. Achievements denied, standards lowered, to push the soft bigotry of low expectations. We should never accept anything less than excellence.

To add to #3 on hurting students - AA particularly hurts the students who are admitted under that policy. In a lot of cases, they are not prepared for college and do not have the skills, education and intelligence to succeed there. They are overwhelmed, cannot keep up, the pressure is too high and they eventually drop out. The drop out rate for AA students is high. AA sets them up for failure and it will affect the rest of their lives in very negative ways.

America has already had more than a half century of "reparations" in the form of Black preferences in college admissions, hiring, promotions, acceptance into all the trades, hiring by police and firefighter departments, federal contract awards, and contract set-asides. Black Privilege writ large. Yet many Black children still fail because their parents tell them that their failures are because they are Black, not because they didn't work hard enough. It is long past time to abandoni Black Privilege and look for the causes of Black failure somewhere else, like mayb e a Black culture that values promiscuity, illegitimacy, igorance, violence, and lack of inpulse control over hard work and achievement.

Reference to poster #10’s comments. Unbelievably big percentages of the “communities” that all those half century long government “reparations” were designed to assist are now more uncivilized and unsocialized then they were a half century ago, hanging in there with broken families and following a degenerate culture that essentially cheers on and supports violent crime against the very people who have paid those “reparations” hoping to lift up those “communities”. It’s become time for the government and the people of America to realize that doing the same, to supposedly continue to assist those “communities” with what amounts to increased “reparations” will not help those “communities” move from the dark ages into the modern world, and until those “communities” decide to go out there, and get educated in productive disciplines, thus making themselves qualified to be hired into gainful employment, until that happens, the clearly uncivilized and unsocialized situations in those “communities” will only get worse. In that respect those “communities” must wake up and oppose mass uncontrolled illegal immigration that is being supercharged by leftist, progressive, and socialist Democrat politics, because the millions of illegal aliens that the Democrats are allowing to flood into the USA in violation of the immigration laws are going to severely hurt US minority “communities” in that those millions of illegal aliens intend to get hired into American jobs that will diminish the wages paid in jobs where illegal aliens can be hired, factors that will be extremely adverse to the ability of US workers, including willing US minority workers, to get and hold productive employment that instead will go to much more compliant illegal aliens who have no choice to work hard and long for low wages, that American workers cannot in most cases accept and maintain their customary US standard of living.

@#9 - That is why college's and universities set themselves up with phony degrees that end in the word 'Studies'. We all know what they are. They make student's feel good about themselves and bolster their egos but when that graduation gown comes off they can't find a job, have debt they can't repay because they have no job skills and wasted 4 years of their lives in the process - which goes back to what you said about setting themselves up for failure.

As many major universities are abandoning any academic admission standards, it's just a lottery. And colorblind? How about gender- and sexual-orientation blind? Professional schools are already overwhelmingly female-dominated. Try finding a male vet of recent vintage...or an American medical doctor...nursing, teaching, name it. Straight white males are checking out when it comes to higher education - no special programs for them. They see the handwriting on the walls. But let's get upset about a tranny amateur swimmer.

A female relative was one of the first female US naval aviators, flew off of the carriers and was an instructor. Highly rated by peers in annual competition. And she retired and went into the airlines. And there, where she was a copilot, she told me that because of affirmative action, the male pilots that she flew with, unless they had flown together before, which was not particularly common, had to assume that she might be a very marginal pilot, and may well be there not because of her skills and experience, but because she was a woman. And she pointed out that affirmative action steals from those it purports to help that which they most deeply desire.....the RESPECT of their peers, because they are ASSUMED to be marginal to incompetent until they prove otherwise, because marginal or incompetent woman can get passed through. A man is assumed to be competent, because everyone knows that incompetent men are tossed out in pilot training. So, she had to prove herself again and again and again, never was afforded automatic respect and only got respect from pilots she had flown with who discovered that she was a very skilled pilot. Affirmative action HARMS people by taking away the respect of their peers, and it harms the system by destroying our meritocracy which IS the "special sauce" that America brought to the world. Now being destroyed.

The United States Senate passed a short-term government funding bill on Thursday after over two dozen Republicans crossed party lines to avert a shutdown. In an 72-25 vote, the Senate passed a funding measure meant to keep the government afloat until December 16. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said the more than two-month extension would allow lawmakers from both sides of the aisle one last chance at negotiating a year-long budget deal before the new Congress takes office in January. "Let's hope this is the last [stop gap], they do so we get an omnibus [budget] done in December," said Schumer, D-N.Y.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris amply illustrated this Thursday when she ended her four-day trip to Asia with a journey to the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) dividing the Korean Peninsula. During the stop she confused onlooks by asserting the United States has a “strong alliance” with “the Republic of North Korea.” “It is an alliance that is strong and enduring,” she added, intending to refer to the Republic of Korea, which is South Korea’s official name.
