Marnette Gordon was doing laundry at home in Minneapolis one summer morning last year when a call came from her 36-year-old son. She figured her son, Telly Blair, was checking in to see if she wanted a soda from a gas station down the street, where he often went for fuel and snacks. "Mom, I've been shot," he said. "Call the police!" (snip) KG Wilson, a longtime resident of the Twin Cities, said police withdrew from violent neighborhoods in the aftermath of Floyd's killing — a common sentiment among locals. "The criminals were celebrating. They were getting rich," he said. "They were selling drugs openly."

In their glowing endorsement of Cedric Alexander (the city's first Commissioner of Community Safety), CNN somehow fails to mention that he was a CNN contributing analyst, has serious questions about the 2nd Amendment, referred to the George Floyd death as a "lynching", and with his degrees in psychology, therapy, and sociology will be making between $295,000 to $350,000 a year. Yup - that's the solution, Murderapolis. No mention of Mayor Frey and Gov. Walz hiding for days as the city was tearing apart. THAT'S the image that is glued in people's minds. THAT"S what is keeping the morale low of Mpls cops, and keeping the average Minnesotan from going into the city. There. I believe I accurately diagnosed the problem and I have no psychology or sociology degrees, and I only make a tenth of what the Commissioner of Community Safety makes.

I don't see the situation improving much - if ever. If Minneapolis tried to clamp down on criminals there would be howls of outcry about 'police brutality' and 'disparate impact'. The city will eventually be a cold Memphis.

There were voices of protest in downtown Minneapolis Saturday. Trump, should he decide to run, can count on residual loyalty. DeSantis can appeal to voters as a younger, more vital, less controversial, and arguably more politically savvy alternative. Trump commands attention, but that attention tends to draw focus to himself. DeSantis commands attention, but
