Members of King Charles III’s staff reportedly were given a redundancy notice during the service of thanksgiving for Queen Elizabeth II on Monday.
According to The Guardian, dozens of Charles’ staff at Clarence House could be jobless as he and the Queen Consort move into Buckingham Palace. The outlet shared that up to 100 employees are at risk with private secretaries, the finance office, the communications team and household staff positions on the line.
The outlet reported that several employees assumed that they would go with Charles to Buckingham Palace and did not know their positions were in jeopardy until they were served a letter Sir Clive Alderton,

Well, they are quite efficient in getting things rolling, I guess. The article mentions that they will be assisting all the redundant staff members with finding other positions.

I feel bad for them at a personal level. They're people and had an honest expectation they'd keep their jobs.
However, the entire British monarchy system is just fluff, wasted UK tax dollars and resources to keep useless inbred celebrities around for the rats to write about. These people provided no value to their country for the tax dollars spent on them.
Britain would be better off officially ending the entire monarchy and calling it a day.

The corgis have gone to Fergie and Andrew and household staff. They will be loved. If you haven't watched that beautiful prayer service in Edinburgh, it is well worth it. I feel bad for anyone who gets summarily dismissed in this way and during a time of grief this seems wrong-headed.

Its what Trump should have done the moment he stepped into the White House. King Charles is smart. Considering the fight he'll have on hand with the Yacht Girl and his Horrid son, it's best to clear the field of any possible moles.

I have no clue how royal households work. Sounds like the office they were working in has ceased since he is now king. Perhaps Megan will need some servants to carry her extra baggage?!?

I seem to remember reading about 25 years ago that the royals might not be able to change a lot of the staff due to unions and other regs being involved. Should be interesting as Chuck the clueless gets off to a tin-earred start. Best of luck to those staffers who gave their lives to serve this fool.

Most of us in business learned long ago that we should never ASSUME.
Lousy timing. But this is notice. When is termination date. #1 mentions they will receive assistance in finding new jobs. They’ll have pretty decent credentials in their resumes.

Why would anyone not expect the man who becomes king to inherit his mother the queen’s staff at the palace? An entirely different world, an entirely different “house”.
As one honest LDotter says, we don’t know much about how royalty works. That says a mouthful.

Right. The people really don’t want the royalty anymore Just a waste of money. That’s why 400,000 of them are expected to file through Westminster Cathedral while she lies in state and millions are mourning and lining the streets.
Why do we have to throw stones at that which we don’t understand?

Actually #5, that used to be true. However, now Paris outdoes London in statistics for touristry. Londonistan is not a myth and the increasing violent crime rate is a factor. I am quite sure there was a reason for the timing of these redundancies. If another Monarch had done it we probably would never have heard a word about it. Many British people in the private sector are losing their jobs as well. It is always sad. The Royal payroll is likely quite bloated and it should be dealt with.

Re #15, ho recently have you been to Paris? The same hordes of middle easterners and North Africans seems to be very common in Paris now, too. Or at least a couple of years ago. We have been to both England and France many times in the last 15 years, and things have changed a LOT, especially in London and Paris. Less so in the countryside.

Yes, #17, many times to Yorkshire, Cotswolds and Scotland over twenty-three years. Indeed lots of changes. My only two experiences in Paris were five and seven years ago. We visited a friend living in Champagne-Ardenne region and it was a beautiful month. I have read only about the tremendous problems with Middle Eastern “newcomers” who have a large criminal element.

Charles the Whatever his Title is, is not going to be a popular person among the royal community, not that he ever was. A hundred people to cater to the whims of a few residents of each house? Sounds like the royals all think they are Michelle Obama.

Not a big fan of King Charles III, but he deserves a chance to make his own way before he is being attacked. The Queen is going to be a hard act to follow and I believe he knows it. It has been his intention to pare down the monarchy. Looks like that has begun. What is so deliciously ironic is that Meghan Markle really made a huge mistake by declaring war on the Queen and the royal family. All she wants is to be at the top of the heap and she pretty much ruined that chance. Just think if she had behaved herself, she would be sitting pretty as the King’s DIL. As it is now, I doubt she is going to get much at all. At least, I hope that is the case. She made the final years of the Queen and Prince Philip’s life miserable, the ungrateful wretch. I hope that King Charles does not forget the hell she put his parents through.

This shouldn’t be a surprise. The Queen and Charles both had armies of staff and servants. Someone had to go. The timing is pretty cold but that’s their culture.

If they didn't expect this, then they weren't thinking ahead. I don't think it's a matter of expecting to remain with Charles, as hoping they could remain in their current positions only with higher status.

It sounds as if King Chuck is doing something right. This is no different than a merger in the corporate world. A few people are going to be displaced because someone else is doing the same job. This is a tempest in a teapot.

Ever since Camillagate and his divorce and despicable treatment of Princess Diana I don't share the same warm feelings for Charles III as I did for the late Queen Elizabeth. She was a gracious and sweet lady who happened to be Queen.

There severance payments will be paid by the press looking for salacious details on the goings-on with the family. The more livid the displaced employees are, the more lurid the tales.

The Queen was not immortal...96 years old. And the succession is a planned and fairly known process. With any change at the top, the change filters down to the footman. As #26 points out, someone has to go..."loyalty" doesn't much matter. The King is not a Prince anymore, he's head of state. One wonders how many staff will be pensioned off, or reassigned elsewhere in the firm. Change never stops.
BTW: There is nothing supporting the notion that the King ordered these letters be delivered at this time. Seems that was handled by Sir Clive Alderton. And it is noted that there were legalities to be observed.

While we don’t know the exact circumstances, it does seem that the timing of the announcement was inappropriate. However, we don’t know how exactly it happened. Was the announcement made during the service? Or is this something which was generally known, and confirmed during the service in response to a specific question? It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that many of the older staff plan to retire as soon as they have assisted with whatever transition is necessary. I suspect that some of them felt that they needed to support the Queen until she had completed her service.
