Palin calls on Begich to drop out of the
race after Democrat wins special election

After a Democrat won the special election last week to finish out for Alaska's at-large congressional seat, former Gov. Sarah Palin called on Monday on fellow Republican Nick Begich to withdraw from November's congressional race so that the GOP can unite behind a single candidate. Palin and Begich lost to Democrat Mary Peltola in the special U.S. House election last week to fill the remainder of Congressman Don Young's term, who died in March.

She’s right, of course, but ego has a way of blinding lesser candidates to facts that are obvious to everyone else.

... or, Palin could drop out, for the good of the GOP. And the country. If they both stay in the race, the Dem will win. It would be far better for SP to quit the race.

I wish Sarah had taken on RINO Murkowski, but she must have seen that as too steep a hill to climb. Alaska voters need to get rid of Murky's ranked-choice system ASAP.

Good solution unless the legislature nukes the rank choice system that would be a better solution. The latter works in getting rid of Murkowski also.

wasn't there a prior primary...where he got around 10% against 8 candidates, now he managed 25% in a three way race, where 1/3 of his supports cast their second choice for a Democrat? The "Party" should have a talk with him, point out that under their "Traditional System" he wouldn't be a player this year... maybe the next cycle he might be a winner.. If he costs them this seat he will not be a player in the next cycle at all."Only Team Players get to ride on the Team bus" (Truth be told...while I like SP, her family was/is a MESS...but compared to Biden's? They are nearly normal. 'Caesar's Wife' rules no longer apply)

I prefer Sarah Palin to get the nod, but ONE of these two must, MUST, withdraw. And demand that his/her supporters NOT go the write route. GOP electoral suicide is the ONLY possible result of both of them fighting each other.

Begich is the newest and only Republican member of an old Alaskan Democrat political dynasty. His uncle is the Democrat Senator from Alaska and was the Democrat mayor of Anchorage. The entire thing is a setup. And Republicans are just politically inept enough to let it happen. Republicans got 60% of the votes in Alaska and STILL LOST. Who in their right mind thinks that he is going to drop out? They both stay in and a Democrat Wins. Palin drops out and a RINO, Democrat plant wins. No matter what, we get the votes and we lose.

Dollars don’t vote, people do. But new federally-mandated campaign finance reports show Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidates David McCormick and Lt. Gov. John Fetterman won their respective party’s “money primaries” through the first quarter of 2022, and that counts for something because all those dollars do help candidates reach the maximum number of people. And the spending in the Pennsylvania Senate primary has been relentless so far, with an analysis by Kantar/CMAG showing $39.16 million has been spent through April 12 in paid television advertisements

Here we are in the midst of a once-in-a-half-century pandemic, with the economy flattened, millions of people unemployed, and unrest on the streets of our cities. And President-elect Joe Biden says that one of his highest priorities as president will be to reenter the Paris climate accord. President Trump kept his "put America first" promise and pulled the United States out of this Obama-era treaty. Biden wants us back in. Why? Paris is an unmitigated failure. You don't have to take my word for it. National Geographic, a supporter of climate change action, recently ran the numbers and admitted in its recent headline: "Most countries aren't hitting 2030 climate goals."

Teachers unions have been instrumental in keeping American schools online during the pandemic. But some have escalated their positions on reopening to include an array of social justice demands. A set of demands from teachers unions in July, which addressed how to safely reopen schools amid a pandemic, was criticized by The Wall Street Journal editorial board as “political extortion.” The board argued that unions were taking advantage of a health crisis to advance their own ideological agendas and to eliminate competition from charter schools.

Why do we do this to ourselves every four years? We talk incessantly about the latest poll in Florida and Michigan and Pennsylvania and Arizona until we are blue in the face. Then they turn out to be wildly wrong. When will we ever learn? It reminds me of that old saying which I think was from Einstein, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.” Polling, at least the old-school style, is over. Done. I don’t need to go through a long list of reasons why nobody should take pollsters seriously anymore, but a few data points are instructive.

President Trump granted a pardon to Michael Flynn, his former national-security adviser, today. Flynn had pled guilty to lying to FBI agents about conversations, during the 2016 transition, with the Russian ambassador about sanctions. Flynn’s pardon should bring to an end one gross violation of the Constitution’s separation of powers, even as it gives rise to groundless accusations of another. Although Flynn had pled guilty, the circumstances of the case had raised serious concerns about whether the government had proceeded properly. The FBI, for example, questioned Flynn even though it did not appear he had violated any law. In May, Attorney General William Barr ordered the case dropped.

The first Thanksgiving in the New World was celebrated in 1621, nearly a year after the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth. In 1789, George Washington became the first of many US presidents to formally proclaim a day of “public thanksgiving and prayer”: I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him

Minnesota is one of a number of states that are living under what amounts to martial law. Our proto-fascist dictator Tim Walz, in his latest edict, purports to ban traditional Thanksgiving get-togethers: Saturday, Nov. 21 through Friday, Dec. 18, Executive Order 20-99 requires all Minnesotans to: * Limit social gatherings to one household. * Not gather outside of your household. * Postpone all celebrations, events, receptions, and parties, including any social gatherings for weddings and funerals. So it is “illegal” for me to invite any of my four kids to Thanksgiving dinner.

Joe Manchin cast the deciding vote for the so-called Inflation Reduction Act, and it may end up costing him his political career if a new poll is to be believed. Manchin, who had originally pledged not to sign on to any new spending bill during the country’s current inflationary boom, suddenly switched his position at the end of July. The bill he negotiated, which cost nearly a trillion dollars, was full of wasteful green energy subsidies and payouts to special interests. It also represented a stabbing in the back of Republican senators who had trusted him to keep his word about reconciliation after voting for the CHIPS Act.
