Black Friday is my favorite day of the year and my favorite extreme sport, but when events and gatherings began disappearing from the calendar back in March, I thought surely Black Friday would be safe. Now here we are, more than eight months later. The mask Karens are still breathing down our necks, governors are trying to kill Thanksgiving, and Black Friday is canceled.
The fliers are still arriving in the mail and the festive doorbuster commercials are rolling, but Black Friday this year just isn’t the same. A Black Friday that takes place mostly online, the whole week of Thanksgiving or the entire month of November,

Black Friday is all good...but didn't oh so many retailers start is , well, some weeks ago?
It is terribly sad and entertaining. Ok, I have a personal issue.
I play Xbox. So, just sweep me from your mind, but Microsoft announced the release of a new device back in, what, July? to hit the stores in Early November. Well, the only stores that actually had them to sell were bought out by bots..A young kid bragged about how he got 65 units with his bot network. You can find them on eBay up to 3 times the value.
So now comes 'Black Friday', the third time I have attempted to buy one of the elusive boxes (I actually have one where it was PAID for and then REMOVED(cancelled) from my Walmart account).
So, I was prepared, like an eBay sniper. :) Within 15seconds, the entire supply was gone.
Oh well.
So my next target was an in person Gamestop..only in stores...I have an 'in' so I called the guy to see when I needed to show up. he said, don't bother, they were getting 2, count them 2 units.
Ok, I ask, Bill (Yes, I know he's got nothing to do with it, except sell us vaccines), What's the deal?

If you are out and about today, be sure to watch out for the "Black Friday Mommas" and the crazies on the road.

Thanks for posting this. When I lived in Vermont, my sister and I were notorious in our families for our Black Friday shopping exploits. We'd comb the ads while the turkey was in the oven before Thanksgiving dinner, planning our stops in order of importance and occasionally separating if two stores had needed bargains at the same time.
One year, we hit Best Buy shortly after the turkey dinner was over (the guys cleaned up, bless their hearts!). We were third in line for the prized certificates for the items we wanted. We ate our pumpkin pie sitting in lawn chairs while wrapped up in warm quilts, drank copious cups of hot chocolate from the only gas station that was open all night and caught cat naps one at a time in my van while waiting for the store to open. And after we finished the first wave, we always had breakfast at the same local Friendly's, followed by a late lunch at Moe's before finely heading home to crash for the rest of the day.
Last year, we shopped separated by 1500 miles, and my niece took my place as her shopping buddy, but at least the tradition was kept going. This year, with all of the mask Nazis and roaming Karen's in Vermont, ready and willing to rat out their neighbors, she has said that she probably won't be going anywhere this weekend.
I'll go out this afternoon (I desperately need to hear Christmas music in stores) , but it won't be the same, and there isn't anything in the ads for which I need to hit the stores early to pick up.
Hopefully, next year will return to normal. We shall see.

I’ve never participated either in the stores or online. Never will. After the frenzy of preparing Thanksgiving dinner, today is always a day of R&R.

After reading this article and #6's post I now understand why some people love Black Friday. It isn't for me but for those who love it, I hope it returns to normal next year.

#1. I have an older XBox. Why? I wanted to see what all the excitement was about. Rarely play computer games on it. Always lose and it's expensive. Spent around an hour downloading a "free" game and when I started it up was informed that I needed to buy stuff which was definitely not free. The main difference between the old and new XBoxs is the new ones won't play DVDs or CDs--everything has to be downloaded. As far as Black Friday goes I don't enjoy standing in lines or shoving people so I'll spend more to not have to act like a pig running for slop.

I never could grasp the enjoyment of getting up at 4 am to stand in line like a Wildebeast waiting to access the watering hole but I'm ready to defend your right to do it. The real enemy is not covid-19, it's the democrat dictators who would impose these silly illegal rules.

I'm not much of a shopper... but my kids loved Black Friday ... I've been searching my brain trying to understand why the lefties want our economy shut down...and why google and amazon want US ordering on line... then Tucker said Bezos of goggle has made 20 billion this lockdown year... that's with a B..this year of confinement.... so now it's clear... the "big" boys want US on the computer ordering... not in stores paying for items they can't control...another attempt at CONTROL by the big boys...and the credit card companies are no better... use cash... they want to squeeze out the dollar so your buying habits will be on file......

We make it a point to NEVER shop on the Friday after Thanksgiving. No way would I even attempt to mix in with those crazies.

I don't miss Black Friday shopping. But I do have good memories of how the department stores used to decorate for Christmas, have a real Santa Claus on hand, and the store staff seemed to genuinely wish you holiday cheer.

An altered 302 testimony record by Page and Strozyk and no one is in prison? A Judge Emmitt Sullivan has the DOJ prosecutors dropping charges but he ignores them? Another trial needs to be held with Sullivan as the defendant.

I hate black Friday. I worked mid-level retail for 8 years, quit 3 years ago for my sanity. No reason to line up for hours on Thanksgiving to get a stupid, cheap Chinese $10 toaster or waffle maker for $8.00. None. Stupid shoppers. Best decision I ever made quitting that retail hellhole (mostly because I’m too old to deal with the young idiot employees AND the psycho customers who want everything for free and a company that won’t give me the equipment I need to do my darn job). No, just heck no!

There is nothing I need that much. One year I went super early to one store and was mostly alone until management arrived about 7 AM and decided that would be my one and only time. I went out this afternoon for awhile. Fauci would have had a stroke. Social distancing is a joke in these busy stores.
