Christopher Wray’s FBI: James Comey Redux?

Original Article

The aces at the New York Times are indignant over the “torrent” of “vitriol unleashed on federal law enforcement officials” following the Mar-a-Lago raid. It’s as if the press corps has memory-holed the last six years of FBI history.Director Christopher Wray’s Federal Bureau of Investigation isn’t looking all that different from James Comey’s FBI. The bureau again faces questions over politicized agents and questionable investigations. Mr. Comey left a foundering ship, and it’s an open question whether the current leadership has the will or wherewithal to right it.

The current leadership has no intention to right the ship. It is perfect for them as it is.

So good to be able to read Kimberley Strassel at WSJ w/o paywall. Add to things I didn’t know file: The whistleblowers further claim Mr. Thibault shut down a line of Hunter investigation, going so far as to attempt “to improperly mark the matter in FBI systems so that it could not be opened in the future.” (Mr. Thibault’s lawyers have denied he did anything wrong.) In an August letter, Mr. Grassley added that whistleblowers said “FBI leadership told employees ‘you will not look at that Hunter Biden laptop,’ and that the FBI is ‘not going to change the outcome of the election again’ ”—an allusion to the Hillary Clinton investigation in 2016. People may be miffed that Mr. Auten was deeply involved in Russiagate, and referred by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz for review given his decision not to highlight the Christopher Steele dossier’s fictions after discovering them in interviews with Mr. Steele and his main source. Or that Mr. Thibault for years has been blasting partisan views on social media. In 2020 he retweeted a Lincoln Project statement that “Donald Trump is a psychologically broken, embittered, and deeply unhappy man.” It’s Peter Strzok and Lisa Page all over again. Grassley has the goods. And enough media know this that it may not be shoved under the carpet any time soon. /s/Hopeful

Being a glass half full type, I am heartened to see 14 FBI agents with the guts and patriotism to blow the whistle. That means there have to be others - many? - with the feelings but sans the guts…?

I had dinner with a retired FBI investigator last night. He mentioned when were both slamming Comey and Wray as crooks that "there are things going in inside the field offices that I can't comment on", and noted that "this sh** is all in DC, and the field offices are not at all happy about the mess in Washington". So, perhaps the honest FBI agents are actually working to do something? It would be a good thing, but it is amazing how a few dozen top crooks in DC can so thoroughly destroy the functioning of the FBI to find actual traitors and criminals within the government, and at the same time keep a fraudulent "investigation" against Trump afloat for YEARS, rafted upon an endless supply of lies - and get no punishment at all for all their criminal acts.

In President Joe Biden’s 2007 memoir, Promises to Keep: On Life and Politics, he wrote that the late Sen. Mike Mansfield (D-Mont.) gave him the best advice he ever received: “Joe, never attack another man’s motive, because you don’t know his motive.” Judging from Biden’s increasingly belligerent speeches, he has forgotten Mansfield’s eminently wise counsel. This was rendered abundantly clear during his Thursday speech at Independence Hall in Philadelphia. Standing before a backdrop that looked as if it had been designed by Leni Riefenstahl, he attacked the motives of half the electorate.

Joe Biden’s speech at Philadelphia’s Independence Hall on Thursday was one of the most remarkable in living memory. By “remarkable,” I hasten to add that I do not mean “good.” On the contrary, it was a breathtaking act of what the psychoanalysts call “projection,” blaming others for the bad things you do yourself. The speech itself was a malignant act of demagoguery that will have colonels and generalissimos everywhere catching their breath with envy. The neo-totalitarian stage set, replete with red lighting effects and military personal flanking the shouting, gesticulating Biden, was right out of central casting. Next time, perhaps Biden will wear epaulettes along with his signature aviators.

Since the Democrats achieved their governing trifecta in 2020, they have presided over a cascading series of domestic and foreign policy disasters while displaying transparent contempt for the Constitution. For the sake of the country, it’s imperative that some semblance of balance is restored to the elective branches of our government. The GOP must regain control of Congress in November. Accomplishing this will clearly require solidarity among Republican officials, the conservative commentariat, and the voters who endure Democratic policies. Above all, no circular firing squads.

I still think this is the likeliest Senate swing seat to go blue this fall. Dr. Oz’s favorability in numerous polls has been brutal and he’s too much of a squish to expect much by way of enthusiastic MAGA turnout. (Although getting to run on the same ballot as Doug Mastriano will help with that.) He’s also certainly going to be outspent before this race is done. But he has two things going for him. One is public concern over crime, particularly the epidemic of shootings this year in Philadelphia. A far-left Democrat who’s on record as saying he wants to reduce the prison population

To gauge the trepidation with which the Democrats view the midterms, consider their reaction to last week’s special elections in New York’s 19th and 23rd congressional districts. They eked out a two-point win in the former and lost the latter. Yet, the Democrats and their friends in the Fourth Estate hailed the NY-19 victory as a portent of doom for the GOP in November. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared, “Republicans should be very, very, very scared this morning about their prospects.” The lady doth protest too much, to quote the Swan of Avon.

Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom fired shots at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis revealing he will give $100,000 to the Republican governor's midterm opponent in an effort to flip the red seat blue in the November election. In a tweet posted by Newsom Thursday, the governor pledged the large donation to Rep. Charlie Crist, D-Fla., who recently won the Florida gubernatorial Democratic primary and advanced to the midterms where he will face DeSantis. Newsom, who is also running for re-election this fall, made his objective with the donation clear. "Time to make Ron DeSantis a one-term governor," Newsom said.

Team Biden’s student-loan “forgiveness” scheme is yet another example of a misguided and dangerous policy initiative masquerading as a public good — no surprise from an administration in which political missteps are the norm. The left is heralding the plan, which will “forgive” $10,000 for student-loan borrowers making $125,000 or less and $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients, as genuine assistance for millions of debtors. But it’s like a Band-Aid on a gunshot wound. It not only falls short of the hype but provides a false sense of financial relief, worsening an already deeply broken system. The reality is that it’s not the government “forgiving” debt but the

Beginning in earnest with Donald Trump’s election in 2016, working class voters in the United States have fled the Democratic Party in droves, quickly eroding a once solid base of support for the party. Amid this seismic shift in the electorate, many elected Democrats and mainstream media pundits have over the past several months desperately tried to prop up this narrative of Democrats as the party of everyday Americans – even as the policies emanating from Washington have grown increasingly opposed to their interests. Following the 2016 election, many in media circles seemed to believe that Trump’s performance with blue-collar and working class voter

In 1980, when the voters of Arkansas denied Bill Clinton a second term as the state’s governor, he responded by apologizing to the voters for the poor decisions he had made and asking them how he could have done a better job. This humble approach allowed him to regain the trust of the voters, and he was reelected in 1982. The rest, to coin a phrase, is history. There’s a lesson for Rep. Liz Cheney in this story, but she refuses to learn it. Indeed, on Sunday, she literally dismissed the Wyoming voters who rejected her as “sick.”

At the same time, it overcounted the population of eight states, all but one of which is a blue state. The 2020 errors were discovered when
