Minneapolis school board backs effort
to rename Patrick Henry High School

The Minneapolis school board took action Tuesday night to begin a process to rename the city's Patrick Henry High School. The resolution that passed unanimously is aimed at ending debate "about whether or not the name should be changed," and directs the north Minneapolis school's site council "to bring forward recommendations for a new school name." The resolution says students, staff and the community "recognize the need for a school name that better represents the values of the community." Patrick Henry High School was named after the 18th century American Founding Father who famously proclaimed "Give me liberty, or give me death!"(Snip)Henry said he was opposed to slavery—but

Comments:

Out with the old, in with the new, just as the communists promised; the "new" in this case being newcomers with zero connection to what once was the USA. They already renamed schools that had honored Thomas Jefferson and Yankee General Philip Sheridan for crimes of slaveholding and being mean to the Indians.

Only dimwits judge long-dead people by the standards of today. If the "judges" knew an iota of history, they would know that slave holders had to pay a steep amount of money sufficient to support their freed slaves so they wouldn't become a charge on the public welfare roles. In addition, slavery was commonplace across the world. Some found it distasteful, but by no means out of the ordinary much less illegal.

But Patrick Henry did help to defend Chief Cornstalk. He was murdered while in custody. Henry tried to get it to trial but the Government shot him before that could happen. While Cornstalk was lying there dying, he placed a curse on the land. Many believe that Mothman was part of that curse on that same land. (UFO thing and American Lore) The name Patrick Henry should remain.

The Miami-Dade School Board in Florida rejected a proposed LGBTQ month for students after a contentious three-hour meeting Wednesday night. The measure would have recognized October as an official period of LGBTQ recognition in the district’s schools and taught older students about two Supreme Court cases related to gay rights. Backers of the proposal argued that the initiative would ease stigmas plaguing the community—with some public speakers likening opposition to Nazi marginalization of specific groups. Opponents asserted that the plan was tantamount to “indoctrination” and would introduce sexualized subject matter to Miami-Dade schools without adequate parental awareness.(Snip)“LGBTQ people suffered a higher rate of suicidal ideation

The University of Chicago came first for campus free speech, scoring 77.92 points out of 100. Four public universities rounded out the top five: Kansas State

A Christian baker is back at the Supreme Court, asking the justices once again to take up her challenge to Oregon’s public accommodations law after the state put her out of business for refusing to create a custom wedding cake for a same-sex couple. They refused to participate, citing the Bible’s teaching against homosexuality and their faith. As a result, the couple filed a complaint

Homeland Security on Thursday announced it has adopted a new lenient policy on immigrants’ use of welfare, tossing a Trump-era policy that would have been far stricter. Under the new system, known as the “public charge” rule, immigrants will only be penalized for potential welfare use if the government believes they will eventually become “primarily dependent” on government payments. By contrast, living in government housing, using Medicaid for health coverage or accepting food stamps wouldn’t count against an immigrant. Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the new rule will deliver “fair and humane treatment of legal immigrants.” “Consistent with America’s bedrock values, we will not penalize individuals for choosing to access

Republicans in the House are preparing to roll out their midterm agenda, which they hope will give voters a reason to vote for them and not just against Democrats. The brainchild of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, the “Commitment to America” will have four parts dealing with the economy, security, education/health care, and government accountability. McCarthy’s office has indicated the Commitment to America will debut in Pittsburgh on September 19. It’s loosely based on the “Contract with American” concept created for the 1994 midterm election that was credited with helping the GOP take over both the House and Senate.
