San Francisco will have to spend $14 billion
filtering nutrients from human POOP to
stop growth of huge algae bloom blamed
for killing thousands of fish in city's
famed bay

California officials say it will cost $14 billion to upgrade aging wastewater facilities that are dumping nutrients from treated human sewage into San Francisco Bay, which are feeding a giant algae bloom that has lingered for more than two months and killed tens of thousands of fish. The algae bloom, which appeared in late July, has grown to an immense size because of the tons of nutrients from urine and feces of the eight million Bay Area residents that is released into the waters daily—one plant alone dumps 85 million gallons a day that contains 5.5 tons of nitrogen. Scientists say the bloom was triggered by climate change,

Comments:

Long-overdue repairs and upgrades to wastewater treatment plants would cost billions of dollars and cause local water bills to triple, so instead they blame Climate Change. Works every time. Don't forget to recycle, don't mind the human waste on the sidewalks, and please don't charge your electric car until further notice because it's hot out.

Fruits, nuts, and blooming idiots. Long overdue maintenance? You mean all the green money malinvested could have been spent elsewhere? As observed, green and climate change is a politician’s dream: results from my spending won’t manifest until after I’m gone and anything bad that manifests while I’m here isn’t my fault.

Street run-off from human poop on the sidewalks and in the gutters couldn't be part of the problem, could it? Aren't these the same "communities" who voted to shut off water to the farmers and flush fresh water into the ocean to save the minnows...and the same "communities" who voted to breach the power-generating dams to "save the salmon?" But their backyards are filled with their sewage killing the fish in their bay! Liberals!

The world has gone MAD. I’m confused. I thought “The Climate” (aka The Environment) is sacred and humans are subservient. But according to this, humans can wreck the environment and just pay for cleanup. On a side note, I found Paul Harvey’s “If I were the Devil” from 1965. It’s short. Google and read.

Here's a thought, take the money that was stolen for climate change and use it to upgrade your wastewater facilities, which are obviously overburdened by the millions of additional people who moved to California to enjoy a better life. Florida had a similar problem because they released water from the Evergades into the Gulf and were not able to blame their dumb mistake on climate change.

Tampa has a similar problem with algae blooms, but Florida officials are blaming farm runoffs. I remember a 'future Earth' book where all human waste was collected. There were certain mineral shortages, and it turned out that human waste was still a good source for those minerals. Don't be surprised if we see more of this.

Waiting for the environmental impact report on so many issues. Recycling EV batteries, electric power plant capabilities, free needle programs, free crack pipe give away. But hey if you want to build a storage shed in the desert you need an environmental impact report that needs to be approved first. That will cost $100,000 min and take years. But hey we are pro growth and pro low cost construction. Oh and you will have to put solar panels on that too.

Poor or nonexistent human sanitation was the reason disease, plagues and death ran rife thru Europe until only 200 tears ago. People routinely dumped their chamber pots out the window onto the streets every morning. It is one on the reasons the man always walked on the outer street side of the sidewalk when walking a woman down the street.

In first world countries, our feces goes into sanitary sewers and then to sewage treatment plants. In third world cities, like San Francisco, feces is dumped on the streets and sidewalks and then enters the storm drainage system right to the bay. Back to the 1800s in San Fran, courtesy of the leftist crazies......and it's all "Eco-green", RIGHT?

A quick perusal of this article revealed that the waste is not coming from San Francisco but from other cities on the bay. San Francisco’s sewage, after treatment, is piped to the Pacific Ocean. All surface waste, including that on the streets and sidewalks end up in the huge treatment plant on the ocean side of the city. So sorry, the jokes about poop on SF’s streets don’t apply here.

I'm sure that hosing the feces off the sidewalks and streets and into the storm sewers that do not get treated, simply dumped in the bay, hasn't impacted the problem.

When it rains the untreated poop flows right into the Bay thru the streets. Algae blooms are the next step on this ecological disaster of letting people live on the streets. Massive Dark Ages disease outbreaks will be next. But, cleaning up the homeless off the streets would be un-cool.

So what I glean from the article is that the fact that people are pooping in the streets and they have no rain to wash it into the sewers and thereby contaminate the Bay is a good thing and the Lord's light has shone on San Francisco.

The Miami-Dade School Board in Florida rejected a proposed LGBTQ month for students after a contentious three-hour meeting Wednesday night. The measure would have recognized October as an official period of LGBTQ recognition in the district’s schools and taught older students about two Supreme Court cases related to gay rights. Backers of the proposal argued that the initiative would ease stigmas plaguing the community—with some public speakers likening opposition to Nazi marginalization of specific groups. Opponents asserted that the plan was tantamount to “indoctrination” and would introduce sexualized subject matter to Miami-Dade schools without adequate parental awareness.(Snip)“LGBTQ people suffered a higher rate of suicidal ideation

Homeland Security on Thursday announced it has adopted a new lenient policy on immigrants’ use of welfare, tossing a Trump-era policy that would have been far stricter. Under the new system, known as the “public charge” rule, immigrants will only be penalized for potential welfare use if the government believes they will eventually become “primarily dependent” on government payments. By contrast, living in government housing, using Medicaid for health coverage or accepting food stamps wouldn’t count against an immigrant. Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the new rule will deliver “fair and humane treatment of legal immigrants.” “Consistent with America’s bedrock values, we will not penalize individuals for choosing to access
