Author Salman Rushdie was attacked at a literary event in upstate New York Friday, when an assailant stormed the stage soon after his introduction. The man proceeded to punch or stab Rushdie, who was scheduled to talk at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, N.Y., some 75 miles south of Buffalo. (Photos) Rushdie’s work earned him death threats from the Iranian government in the 1980s, and his book “The Satanic Verses” was banned in the country in 1988. This is a breaking story and will be updated.

Poster #3 is spot on. This should be a story about Islam. Rushdie has been targeted for death in 1989 by the Ayatollah Khomenei for alleged blasphemy against Mohammad. That was 33 years ago. Islamists terrorists never forget and were always looking for the opportunity.

Those "satanic verses," are the ones Mohammad wrote that, even during his life, he had to walk back. Mo blamed a demon for tricking him, something that the true God would never have allowed. But muslims pretend those verses don't exist, even glossing over them in their momorizing the "entire" koran.

Author Salman Rushdie was off a ventilator and in good spirits Saturday, a day after being stabbed as he went to give a lecture in upstate Chautauqua, his agent confirmed. Rushdie, 75, remained in serious condition but was said to be “talking (and joking)”, fellow author Aatish Taseer tweeted. Rushdie’s agent Andrew Wylie confirmed the update, a day after saying author was likely to lose an eye. The author also suffered a damaged liver and severed nerves in his arm, the agent said.

The writer and historian Victor Davis Hanson is one of the most serious thinkers of our time. When he says something, people should listen. Following the raid on Trump’s Florida home, Hanson is saying that the FBI is beyond redemption. That it cannot and should not be saved in its current form. To hear Hanson saying this should alarm people. He is not the type of man who engages in outrageous talk. He means this, for real.Victor Hanson: ‘We Don’t Have Rule of Law in Washington … FBI is Beyond Redemption’ When asked about the FBI raid on former President Donald Trump’s home in Palm Beach, Fla., professor, author, and

Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson slammed New York City Mayor Eric Adams, telling the mayor he needs to address the "root cause" of the border crisis after his feud this week with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott over bussing migrants to New York City on "One Nation." REP. RONNY JACKSON: It's absolutely comical. I mean, if this guy wants to address the issue, he needs to go and do what Kamala Harris said she was going to do at the very beginning: Address the root cause. The root cause is right down the hall from where she sits in the White House. It's in the Oval Office.

The raid on Trump’s home last Monday was the high water mark of Merrick Garland’s politicization of the Department of Justice. That act of weaponizing the DOJ was shocking in that it violated accepted norms. Serving a search warrant and using the FBI as its enforcers were entirely unnecessary. A subpoena or even a phone would have sufficed, but a subpoena or a phone doesn’t send a “we can do whatever we want” message. A 9-hour-long rummage through desks, sock drawers, and Melania Trump’s closet do. Merrick Garland and his Justice Department aren’t done poking Trump in the eye. The DOJ recently offered up one more act of petty political vengeance

It is possible (not certain, but possible) that within the next 20 years or so, the United States will no longer exist. That would be a great setback for human liberty. The end of the American republic would most likely mean the end of self-government all over the globe—the beginning of a new dark age. The United States, even now, is the world’s greatest example of constitutional democracy, and if the cause of freedom fails here, it probably will not survive anywhere. More than that, however, the end of liberty on these shores would most likely mean the end of any memory of America.

Buying a home in the US is the least affordable it's been in 33 years as mortgage rates soar this year and home prices hit record highs. The National Association of Realtors revealed Friday that its housing-affordability index - a metric that uses median existing-home prices, median family incomes and average mortgage rates to calculate home affordability - fell to 98.5 percent in June, the lowest level since 1989. An index of 100 means the average family has more than enough income required to buy a home, with a dip below that mark suggesting households are struggling to enter the housing market.

One thing we must give Democrats credit for is their unity. Yes, certain members of the party such as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) will occasionally diverge from the party line and oppose particularly radical pieces of legislation, but when it comes to big moments and key votes – on impeachment, for instance – Democrats circle the wagons. Contrarily, Republicans tend to fracture at the most inopportune moments, which is why it was refreshing to see virtual unanimity amongst the GOP after Monday’s outrageous raid on former President Donald Trump’s residence Mar-a-Lago. Almost all notable Republicans supported Trump after the ordeal; all except for one.

It is helpful to think of political developments as moves on the chessboard made to advance an objective. In chess, the objective is to win the game, chess being zero-sum. Politics is like that, too, though participants often claim it's not, that they're acting for the greater good, principles at the foundation of democracy, motherhood and apple pie and all that — which is true in some cases but never if Democrats are in the game. This brings me to Attorney General Garland's claim that the Mar-a-Lago home invasion wasn't a raid at all.

The post–George Floyd racial reckoning has hit the field of medicine like an earthquake. Medical education, medical research, and standards of competence have been upended by two related hypotheses: that systemic racism is responsible both for racial disparities in the demographics of the medical profession and for racial disparities in health outcomes. Questioning those hypotheses is professionally suicidal. Vast sums of public and private research funding are being redirected from basic science to political projects aimed at dismantling white supremacy. The result will be declining quality of medical care and a curtailment of scientific progress.

The bill would only reduce annual inflation by 0.1 percentage point over the next five years. The study estimated that the small inflation reduction would begin only "once major deficit-reducing provisions of the legislation are fully implemented, but the Act would have no measurable impact on inflation after 2028.

By the time the COVID pandemic took hold in March 2020 and changed the world forever, Peloton was poised to reap the rewards of a brilliant idea and impeccable timing.
