Conservatives online ripped into U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland for his address to the nation on the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago on Thursday. During the speech, which was less than five minutes and contained no opportunity for press questions, Garland offered few details on why the raid occurred on former President Donald Trump’s Florida estate, though he mentioned that the search warrant and its contents would be unsealed at the behest of Trump. The only major detail Garland did provide, however, was that he "personally approved" of the execution of the search warrant

A reminder of the double standard of law: Obama and Biden took 33,000,000 pages of documents in violation of this same law, have failed to comply, and nothing has happened.

All the smears of Trump, the most transparent President in history, that answered every question asked of him. And these dudes, all flagrant criminals and obnoxious weaklings, strut off the stage showing their backsides without answering the public's questions. You stink and are not 1 millioneth of the man Trump is, who don't need 40 FBI panty sniffing perverts with machine guns to take you on. Trump walked into North Korea with nothing.

Garland’s press conference was pathetic. He looked like he was sweating. We don’t intend to be silent when the FBI has been politicized and weaponized by the liberals to attack their political enemies. Biden knew this was going down and fully approved it. You don’t raid the home of a former President without bothering to tell the current President. Lies, all of it.

The writer and historian Victor Davis Hanson is one of the most serious thinkers of our time. When he says something, people should listen. Following the raid on Trump’s Florida home, Hanson is saying that the FBI is beyond redemption. That it cannot and should not be saved in its current form. To hear Hanson saying this should alarm people. He is not the type of man who engages in outrageous talk. The raid on Trump’s home last Monday was the high water mark of Merrick Garland’s politicization of the Department of Justice. That act of weaponizing the DOJ was shocking in that it violated accepted norms. Serving a search warrant and using the FBI as its enforcers were entirely unnecessary. A subpoena or even a phone would have sufficed, but a subpoena or a phone doesn’t send a “we can do whatever we want” message. A 9-hour-long rummage through desks, sock drawers, and Melania Trump’s closet do. Merrick Garland and his Justice Department aren’t done poking Trump in the eye. The DOJ recently offered up one more act of petty political vengeance

It is possible (not certain, but possible) that within the next 20 years or so, the United States will no longer exist. That would be a great setback for human liberty. The end of the American republic would most likely mean the end of self-government all over the globe—the beginning of a new dark age. The United States, even now, is the world’s greatest example of constitutional democracy, and if the cause of freedom fails here, it probably will not survive anywhere. More than that, however, the end of liberty on these shores would most likely mean the end of any memory of America.

Buying a home in the US is the least affordable it's been in 33 years as mortgage rates soar this year and home prices hit record highs. The National Association of Realtors revealed Friday that its housing-affordability index - a metric that uses median existing-home prices, median family incomes and average mortgage rates to calculate home affordability - fell to 98.5 percent in June, the lowest level since 1989. An index of 100 means the average family has more than enough income required to buy a home, with a dip below that mark suggesting households are struggling to enter the housing market.

One thing we must give Democrats credit for is their unity. Yes, certain members of the party such as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) will occasionally diverge from the party line and oppose particularly radical pieces of legislation, but when it comes to big moments and key votes – on impeachment, for instance – Democrats circle the wagons. Contrarily, Republicans tend to fracture at the most inopportune moments, which is why it was refreshing to see virtual unanimity amongst the GOP after Monday’s outrageous raid on former President Donald Trump’s residence Mar-a-Lago. Almost all notable Republicans supported Trump after the ordeal; all except for one.

It is helpful to think of political developments as moves on the chessboard made to advance an objective. In chess, the objective is to win the game, chess being zero-sum. Politics is like that, too, though participants often claim it's not, that they're acting for the greater good, principles at the foundation of democracy, motherhood and apple pie and all that — which is true in some cases but never if Democrats are in the game. This brings me to Attorney General Garland's claim that the Mar-a-Lago home invasion wasn't a raid at all.

The post–George Floyd racial reckoning has hit the field of medicine like an earthquake. Medical education, medical research, and standards of competence have been upended by two related hypotheses: that systemic racism is responsible both for racial disparities in the demographics of the medical profession and for racial disparities in health outcomes. Questioning those hypotheses is professionally suicidal. Vast sums of public and private research funding are being redirected from basic science to political projects aimed at dismantling white supremacy. The result will be declining quality of medical care and a curtailment of scientific progress.

The bill would only reduce annual inflation by 0.1 percentage point over the next five years. The study estimated that the small inflation reduction would begin only "once major deficit-reducing provisions of the legislation are fully implemented, but the Act would have no measurable impact on inflation after 2028.
