New study challenges value of antidepressants

Original Article

A new study is challenging the long-standing theory that a lack of serotonin in the brain causes depression, as well as the value of antidepressants that are designed to address the problem. Researchers at the University College London said evidence doesn’t support the underlying idea, originated 60 years ago, that a “chemical imbalance” in the brain produces a lack of serotonin. That imbalance is what has long driven prescription drugs for antidepressants, known as selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs. Common examples of the drug are sertraline (Zoloft), fluoxetine (Prozac and Sarafem) and escitalopram (Lexapro).(Snip)“In fact, drug trials show that antidepressants are barely distinguishable from a placebo

Comments:

Obviously they've never heard of Settled Science. Besides, if not for SSRIs, where would we get school shooters and other people who suddenly commit such crimes?

I would like to know why it took so long for this apparent fact to come out. People have been taking these pills for 60 years now for no particular reason, except insurance payments, and pharmaceutical profits. There has ALWAYS been a drive to reduce psychological problems to the size of a pill, because psychiatry is not a science and results are not easily verifiable. And insurance don't want to pay for that process to begin with. Once you're on these things, they are really difficult to get off them. Depression probably comes from the highly unbalanced lives we lead. Koyaanisqatsi, a life out of balance.

Two close family member take them. One has been on them for decades and said if she didn't have them, she just sits and cries all day. The other is happier than I've ever seen him and I gave birth to him. So they do have a place in medicine. But with others, it puts a screen of sorts on their feelings. It's like it shuts something down inside. I'd never take them. I don't get depressed. If something bothers me, I deal with it and sometimes, unfortunately, I might yell a bit. But as much as I hate them, they are necessary for some.

When my now 19 year old stepdaughter was 15, she was put on an incorrect dose of anti depressants and tried to commit suicide by ingesting every pill in her moms medicine cabinet. She was found in time but still takes them. I know at least one other SD was put on them but not sure if she still takes them. Their mom is a big pharma believer. Me, not so much. Even with this knowledge, I’m more worried about the gene therapy shots 3 out of 4 have taken.

This makes me sad. If only there was some way, you could go someplace quiet, with other people, and collectively channel some coversation with a being, some entity, that could help you find some peace and structure and acceptance and focus.

The Army picked General Motors to provide them with a GMC Hummer EV for a test drive as the service looks to fill a requirement for a light- to heavy-duty battery electric vehicle to reduce the military’s reliance on fossil fuels in garrison and in the field. GM’s all-electric pickup-model Hummer features 1,000 horsepower with a 24-module, double-stacked Ultium battery pack. It offers almost 330 miles of combined driving range with its first edition and can go from 0-to-60 mph in as little as 3 seconds, according to the company. “Leveraging GM’s advanced technology, this demonstration will prove to our U.S. Army customer

President Joe Biden likely has a highly contagious strain of COVID-19, but his moderate symptoms are improving, the White House doctor said in an update on Saturday. The variant, known as BA.5, is an offshoot of the Omicron strain that emerged late last year, and is now believed to be responsible for the vast majority of new coronavirus cases in the country. Dr. Kevin O´Connor, the president's physician, wrote in his latest update on Biden's condition that Biden's earlier symptoms, including a runny nose and a cough, have become 'less troublesome.' O'Connor's earlier notes following Biden's diagnosis on Thursday did not mention the sore throat or body aches.

According to the Fox News models, that advantage would translate to a GOP win, with a gain of 23 seats. Now, other polls are coming in even higher than that. First, we have the Trafalgar Group poll on the generic Congressional ballot. That has the Republicans up by more than eight points among likely voters, Republicans 48.3 percent to Democrats 40.2.
