Word on the mean streets of Detroit is that the Ford Motor Company is planning on axing 8,000 salaried workers in order to boost profits to help fund future electric vehicles (EV).
FAST FACTS
The 8,000 workers represent roughly 25% of Ford’s 31,000 salaried employees
The auto giant’s goal is to save $3 billion in costs by 2026
Ford’s other goal is to build 2 million EVs by 2026
They also intend to produce electric F-Series trucks
“As part of this, we have laid out clear targets to lower our cost structure to ensure we are lean and fully competitive with the best in the industry,” Ford’s Chief Communications Officer Mark Truby said in a statement.

Read somewhere today that Ford's electric F-150 has a range of 85 miles when towing a trailer. Lots of luck!

One more result from the Green New Deal. It's creeping into our economy in innumerable ways. It's going to get much worse. It flies into the face of reality.

Ford is making a lot of their current automotive line up in Mexico, so don’t be surprised when their new electric vehicles come with tags saying that they were made in Mexico.

I think it would be expensive to have a home (garage) wired for a charging station to charge EVs at home. I don't think you can just plug it into a standard wall outlet. That could mean major wiring for an older home and will increase the home utility bill and put more strain on the electric grid. Do the people pushing this so-called green energy hope people will not realize this until it is too late? And what about the expensive battery that costs as much as a standard car today when it has to be replaced and how do you get rid of the old ones along with the solar panels on the roof with a life span of 25 years?

There was an item the other day about GM's PR chief who had come to the relaunch of the Volt. Under questioning by a persistent reporter she had to admit that until the public grid also became Green, EVs are in effect running on coal.

#8, you can't just plug it into your home socket, you need a conversion plug which will run upwards of $1500 alone.
And, our power grid is nowhere near ready for a massive transformation and adoption of these vehicles.
The real plan is to get you out of owning a vehicle, and you'll need to use public transit vehicles.

Ford could take those same 8000 employees, put on a Bronco line, and clean up. The demand for the Bronco is through the roof. The demand for EV is mainly in elite liberal enclaves. Ford’s Board should be fired for allowing this.

Re #8, no need to "think" it. All you suppose is exactly correct. If you charge an EV from a standard wall outlet.....you will be there for 24 hours or something like that.
Very expensive to get the power levels required for the faster charging, both in the equipment and rewiring your home.
And the pathetic, un-expanded power grid has no excess capacity any more. There will be no way to charge a bunch of these worthless EVs.

And those of us that have vehicles we love will just keep repairing them - it will be cheaper in the long run. Hubby has an F350 diesel and he won't trade it for anything. Any of the new trucks are junk according to him.

It thought that going green was going to create jobs, not destroy them. Seems that in order for Ford to be able to afford to produce electric vehicles, they must cut their workforce to be able to afford it. Where are the new green jobs at Ford?

I have a 2004 Ford F250 diesel and a 2022 Ram 2500 diesel.
The new one is more powerful, comfortable, and technologically advanced.
The old one is tougher, less plasticy, and more durable.
I could sell the old one for almost half what I paid new for it but I want to keep it for a spare. My wife doesn't like that idea.
Ford's stock took a leap on this news, but the Gov't wasn't in on it. Sorry, Nanzi.

It will be interesting if the US car manufacturers survive the switch and upcoming EV crash that's coming. If we can't buy a new car and get what we want, we'll keep our old ICE cars and keep them running forever just like in Cuba.

My grandfather was one of the first two Ford dealers in Los Angeles and if he could, he would be rolling over his grave at my comments. I have been a life long Ford customer, but no more. I will not buy an EV until Uncle Sam leaves me no option. Toyota is now my choice, except even it has succumbed to the stop at annintersection fraud. Leave my vehicle alone! Let me drive!

Electric cars are a step backwards in trajectory of transportation. Honestly, I rather have a horse and wagon than an EV.

#2: the report I saw said the electric F150 just made 100 miles, but took it very slow near the end to make a charging station. But who's quibbling? I go over 300 miles in mine and I'm ready for another 300 in mere minutes at the pump.

In 2019 I bought one of the last of the non turbo Honda 2.4L cr-v's, they went to turbo only in 2021. In 2022 I bought the only Honda accord that doesn't have a turbo, the Accord Hybrid EX-L. I think that these are the last two cars that my wife and I ever buy. I will not buy a turbo and will never buy an EV. The cr-v is a great car and I will treat it accordingly so that it lasts as long as I can drive. So far the Hybrid is doing well. The combination of gas and electricity are working well. It's much faster than any accord that I have owned, and that's many, and I expect it will last a long time the way that we drive it. It gets over fifty miles to a gallon which I like. I doubt that I will be buying the garbage that the American manufactures are offering are ever going to grace our driveway.

With the Dems in charge, I have come to expect lunacy from the public sector, but this madness seems to have jumped into the private sector. I suspect federal contract money is somehow involved.
