A Mississippi high school student is being lauded after he heroically rescued three teenage girls, who plunged their vehicle into the river, and a police officer who was also trying to save the girls.
The accident occurred at the I-10 boat launch on the Pascagoula River in Mississippi in the early hours of Sunday morning, WLOX reported. Corion Evans, 16, happened to be in the right place at the right time as the vehicle drove straight into the river off the boat launch. (snip) Evans, who has been swimming since he was three years old, without hesitation jumped in to rescue the girls.

It is nice to read a good story for a change. A brave and good young man. I wish him well. He certainly earned it.

Well done! Very well done, young man.
He deserves a lot of credit, just doing the right thing without hesitation. I hope he continues to get recognition for his good Samaritan performance. He's been swimming since three. Yep, when you start young and are comfortable in the water, this sort of stuff just is something that you can do. Kind of embarrassing for the officer, but he may not have taken off enough of the gear that they wear, which is
very much NOT helpful for swimming.
A nephew has a medal from the USMC for saving some folks from drowning. He's also completely comfortable in the water, and, like this young man.\, was at the right place at the right time saw what was necessary and did it.

What a great young man! I hope the community gives him the recognition he deserves. If he needs financial support for college we should start a fund to help him and his family. He must have a great living family for him to unselfishly risk his life to save strangers. Way to go brother!

Can we take away MeAgain Rapinho’s Medal of Freedom and give it to this kid?

Kudos to the police officer too; he, obviously, had some issues that could have cost him his life as well. Yet, he put others first, just like the young man. The young man thought about the alligators after the rescue. We need to hear about stories like this so people aren't swayed to think certain ways about people that are negative and unnecessary.

Gotta wonder...how/why did a carload of girls manage to drive at speed right down a boat ramp into the river...in front of a large crowd...in the middle of the night?
Kudos to the Hero.

Well done Corion! Not everyone, regardless of their age, would have the presence of mind to stay calm and take action, as well as having the physical capability to do it. And kudos to the officer for also risking his life in the rescue.

I'm so cynical, but it's stories like this that give me a glimmer of hope.

Come on Miss., how about a parade and demonstration for Corion? I hope someone starts a fund for him to go to college.

Re #10, many times people missing for years or decades who just "vanished one night" duplicated this error, except alone and did not get out. The inertia of the car moves it out into deep water before it sinks, and they are just "vanished".
Probably they were acting like teens, driving too fast, and weren't where they thought they were, and then just suddenly....the road led into the water.
