FEMA to uninsured Montanans: ‘Take responsibility

FROMBERG — As Fromberg residents worked to clear the muck and river water from their homes Thursday, a FEMA spokesperson said people should manage their expectations about federal aid. “If you’re waiting for the federal government or somebody else to help you that help may or may not come, and I’m not sure when it will come,” FEMA spokesperson Leo Skinner said Thursday in Stillwater County. “So I always tell people, this is a tough line to tell people, ‘Take responsibility for your own disaster recovery.’” On Thursday, Gov. Greg Gianforte requested President Joe Biden activate the FEMA Individual Assistance

Comments:

FEMA's maps say there are not in a flood zone so flood insurance would not be needed. So FEMA won't provide even 2 ¢ of assistance.

Montana not a hot destination for minority illegals or state could claim aid needed for them. a Thousand headlines calling it a once in 1000year disaster...FEMA sez..."uhm, not so fast". Note as well...much of the damage was from outflow from Federal lands, carrying thousands of downed trees, causing worse flooding, tearing out bridges, wiping out fences, while Federal Regulatory agencies had stopped any local residents, govts and citizens from streambank improvements, impoundments, flood control projects

My experience with FEMA, after being hit by a hurricane in Florida in August 2004, is that if you have insurance, the only thing FEMA wants is your information for their records, I guess. I do, however, wonder why it is the taxpayers' responsibility to cover damages in most disasters. Really, that is why you have homeowner's insurance. So we really don't need FEMA.

Well, since fema’s primary existence is for disaster relief then we should just get rid of them. They are wasting money by not doing their job. We could get rid of the department of education too. Quality education in this country has been going down hill since the doe was created in the early 70s. Note: I use lower case on purpose.
