Washington — The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a New York law that placed strict restrictions on carrying concealed firearms in public for self defense, finding its requirement that applicants seeking a license to carry a concealed handgun demonstrate a "proper cause" to do so in public is unconstitutional.
In a 6-3 ruling, the Supreme Court reversed a lower court decision upholding New York's 108-year-old law limiting who can obtain a license to carry a concealed handgun in public. Proponents of the measure warned that a ruling from the high court invalidating it could threaten gun restrictions in several states and lead to more firearms on city streets.
Justice Clarence Thomas
6-3. Wow. Now to make sure NYS complies with the ruling.

Well, if it leads to more firearms on the streets in the hands of honest citizens able to defend themselves against gangbangers, thieves, rapists, murderers and the Democrat armies of BLM and antifa thugs that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's obvious the police and Democrat prosecutors won't do it.
It's sad that we no longer live in a civil society, especially in our big cities, but all of us are reaping what yhe Democrats have sown.

If they can find a way to prevent people from HAVING handguns, it won't matter that they can get a license to conceal-carry them... Keep vigilance on these scoundrels to be ready for an end-around to moot this ruling.

Nice to know that at least six members of the Court understand the meaning of “shall not be infringed”.

FTA: "In my view, when courts interpret the Second Amendment, it is constitutionally proper, indeed often necessary, for them to consider the serious dangers and consequences of gun violence that lead states to regulate firearms,"
So, we give rights for safety? how's that working out in Chicago and other places that have strict gun laws?
Don't confuse a liberal with facts it only gets them more confused.

Pennsylvania allows open carry of handguns without a permit.
There is text in the majority opinion that can affect Red Flag laws.
The core holding is the no government, including the federal government, can require that an adult must acquire a prerequisite permit to OPEN CARRY commonly carried handguns.
I find two of Thomas' sentences to be amusing:
1. "But when is comes to interpreting the Constitution not all history is created equal."
2. "Notwithstanding the ink the parties spilt . . . " (regarding the 1328 Statute of Northampton). I read this as a fun dig regarding the amount of lawyering the parties have expended discussing and arguing the alleged relevance of this 694 year old Statute, which the majority opinion explains has had no relevance in England for the last 400 years, and has zero relevance when interpreting the Framers' intent regarding the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution

Soon enough an ordinary person in NYC will be able to purchase a handgun and get a concealed carry permit.
As long as self-defense remains legal (look for this to be the next Demonrat attack area), the streets of NYC are going to be trending towards less violence in the long run, but there may be a "training period" or a "culling period" where a bunch of violent criminal types get what they have been deserving for many years.

The states of New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island, as well as the District of Columbia, are in for a rude awakening. A lot of their gun laws are now invalid and unenforceable. This is going to be fun to watch.

Re #8, District of Columbia has been forced to install a "shall issue" objective standards law for CCW a few years back. They were dragged kicking and screaming to that, but there they are.
So only eight states, not DC.

NY concealed carry permit process is so rigorous that the 194,100 permit holders have a lower crime rate than the police in this state. That has been the case for years. Our hysterical appointed Gov. has no idea that this is true.

And the NY politicians will ignore this ruling and come up with other roadblocks.
