Colombo, Sri Lanka — Sri Lanka's debt-laden economy has "collapsed" after months of shortages of food, fuel and electricity, the prime minister told lawmakers Wednesday in comments that underscored the country's dire situation as it seeks help from international lenders. Ranil Wickremesinghe told Parliament the South Asian nation faces "a far more serious situation" than the shortages alone, and he warned of "a possible fall to rock bottom." "Our economy has completely collapsed," he said. The crisis on the island of 22 million is considered its worst in recent memory, but Wickremesinghe did not cite any specific new developments.

It wasn't just the going Green aspect...they also went deeeep into debt/deficit with Major "Infrastructure spending plans", much of that debt to china...their three closest allies are China, Russia, Pakistan., though their 3 biggest trade partners are China, India and the USA.. Proving the old adage..."The problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of Other Peoples Money", they managed to achieve the highest education/literacy rates in Asia, highest income/standard of living, best healthcare systems...but the massive costs led to the Bills finally coming due. Much as it did in Venezuela.

The country made bad choices. Embracing leftist policies always ends in the same way, total collapse of your economy. The fact that these socialist policies are still being promoted is insane. Time after time they are proven to be destructive and people suffer. Yet, here we are today and socialism or some form of it is being pushed around the world. You’d think that some evil genius was behind all this turmoil. Why do fairly intelligent people insist on giving this failed political strategy any credence whatsoever? It has never worked as promised and ends in disaster, violence and death. Why are so many countries willing to give it a shot with its proven record of failure? It just boggles the mind.

Re #11. A portion of the ecodisaster was a response to the leftists borrowing the country into bankruptcy so that they had great difficulty purchasing the fertilizers needed to keep food production high enough to prevent starvation. One leftist political disaster leads to another leftist ECO-political disaster. And soon enough, when leftists take over, the people are starving in poverty. Every. Single. Time.

Two of the primary providers in Texas ceased performing abortions on Friday after the Attorney General warned they could be prosecuted immediately. “Some prosecutors may choose to immediately pursue criminal prosecutions based on violations of Texas abortion prohibitions predating Roe that were never repealed by the Texas Legislature,” AG Ken Paxton said in a written opinion issued following the court’s ruling. “Although these statutes were unenforceable while Roe was on the books, they are still Texas law,” Paxton wrote. “Under these pre-Roe statutes, abortion providers could be criminally liable for providing abortions starting today.”

The House of Representatives on Friday passed the most sweeping gun control bill in nearly 30 years in a 234 -193 vote as Congress responds to gun violence across the nation. The legislation garnered some GOP support with 14 House Republicans crossing party lines to vote in favor of the measure. The bill, which will now head to the president’s desk, passed the Senate with a 65-33 vote late Thursday night. Ten Senate Republicans and 10 Senate Democrats began negotiations on the legislation after two mass shootings in Buffalo, New York and Uvalde, Texas left dozens dead last month within a week of each other.

Washington - President Joe Biden pledged to take every step his administration can to protect abortion rights after the Supreme Court overturned the landmark Roe v. Wade decision on Friday, and called on voters to elect state and federal officials who will vote to allow the procedure. Biden spoke from the White House on the ruling that eliminates a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion after nearly 50 years. The decision is expected to lead to nearly half of U.S. states outlawing or severely restricting the medical procedure and will affect tens of millions of people. “I believe Roe v. Friday’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade will make abortions illegal in Texas in 30 days. The Texas Legislature passed a “trigger law” in 2021 that makes performing abortions in Texas a felony 30 days after the Supreme Court overrules Roe v. Wade. “The U.S. Supreme Court correctly overturned Roe v. Wade and reinstated the right of states to protect innocent, unborn children,” Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a written statement following the SCOTUS decision on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. “Texas is a pro-life state, and we have taken significant action to protect the sanctity of life.”

As Redstate reported, in one of the biggest and most impactful stories of the last 50 years, Roe v. Wade has been overturned by the US Supreme Court. The leaked draft decision that pushed conversation and outrage for the last several months was real, and it has now been made official. States now have the right to regulate the brutal practice of abortion as they see fit, a move toward respect for human life and basic morality we haven’t seen in this country since slavery was abolished. It’s hard to overstate how big of a day this is for those who have fought so diligently to protect the lives of unborn babies.

CNN senior writer Brian Lowry, and by extension CNN media reporter Brian Stelter (host of the reliably slanted Reliable Sources), mocked right-of-center New York Times columnist Ross Douthat for daring to write about two new movies in his latest column, even though he’s been a movie critic for National Review for over a decade. It’s the latest demonstration of the mainstream press failing to follow or try to understand conservative media. Stelter’s June 19 newsletter included a snotty take from Lowry that suggested Times op-ed columnists, and Douthat in particular, should stick to their knitting and leave pop culture analysis to the so-called experts, i.e. credentialed film critics.

The Supreme Court on Friday overturned Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that legalized abortion, allowing a Mississippi law passed that bans abortions after 15 weeks to take effect. “The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the 6-3 majority. The ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization means each state will now be able to determine its own regulations on abortion, including whether and when to prohibit abortion.
