WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court seems poised to take on a new elections case being pressed by Republicans that could increase the power of state lawmakers over races for Congress and the presidency, as well as redistricting, and cut state courts out of the equation. The issue has arisen repeatedly in cases from North Carolina and Pennsylvania, where Democratic majorities on the states’ highest courts have invoked voting protections in their state constitutions to frustrate the plans of Republican-dominated legislatures. Already, four conservative Supreme Court justices have noted their interest in deciding whether state courts, finding violations of their state constitutions, can order changes to federal elections

So if it helps the Democrats, now they are interested in hearing a case.

The Constitution pre-dates the formation of political parties. It presumes none exist. People vote for candidates in that world. There are no "rights" accrued to political party affiliation for determining "fairness." That said, state law apparently permits state court reviews. No election is "Federal" - all are local elections for Federal office. The Constitution does not reserve the legislature any powers in these elections. So, what will the "originalists" do? And will those "originalists" among conservatives be happy with their decision? Let's see how this shakes out...

Long overdue........Article 1 Section 4 makes it very clear that state legislatures (not governors or state justices) are responsible for prescribing the processes for federal elections.

#3 You're wrong......the U.S. Constitution takes precedence over state constitutions when it comes to federal elections. Article 1 Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution makes state legislatures responsible for the times, places and manner of holding federal elections shall be prescribed in each State by the legislature ...

Thank you, #4 and #5 in response to your reply to #3. The Constitution clearly places the mechanics of how elections are held solely in the lap of the State Legislatures. Who enforces Article 1 Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution if not the Supreme Court?

Nearly three-fourths of National Institutes of Health (NIH) grantees fail to properly report their researchers’ ties to foreign countries and companies, according to an investigation by the Department of Health and Human Services Inspector General (HHS-IG). “More than two-thirds of grantees failed to meet one or more requirements for investigators’ disclosure of all foreign financial interests and support. These problems often involved requirements to disclose non-publicly traded equity interests from foreign entities and to disclose in-kind resources, professional affiliations, or participation in a foreign ‘talents’ program,” reads the HHS-IG report, which was made public earlier in June.

While there is growing speculation that federal agents and Capitol Police were involved in instigating acts of violence during the Jan. 6, 2021 protests and recording responses for the purposes of entrapment, evidence now proves that “plainclothes” members of a special Electronic Surveillance Unit (ESU) were embedded among the protesters for the purposes of conducting video surveillance. Evidence also points to a day of security deficiencies and police provocation for the purpose of entrapment. A White House official on June 20 made a false claim about COVID-19 vaccines while encouraging parents to get their young children vaccinated. Dr. Ashish Jha, the White House’s COVID-19 response coordinator, said that “there have not been any serious side effects of these vaccines,” which is not true. Severe allergic reactions, blood clotting, heart inflammation, and paralysis are among the serious side effects linked to the three COVID-19 vaccines available in the United States. “There is a well-documented risk of myocarditis from the COVID vaccine, especially in young men and adolescent boys, and an elevated risk of clotting in young women with the Moderna vaccine,” Dr. Jay Bhattacharya,

Congress now has had more prime time committee hearings on the January 6th protest than it did on 9/11. I am not sure just what the purpose of the January 6th hearings are. Americans have turned their attention to inflation and recession. But in Washington, where no one ever gets laid off and no one has to go to work if it snows, the show is the talk of the town. The rest of the country has to work today. DC closed for Juneteenth. The great divide in America is not between lefties and righties. The divide is between the governed and the government. Two reports from Salena Zito(snip)confirm this.

PITTSBURGH — When the Hampton Battery was dedicated here in 1871 to a young Civil War soldier who lost his life protecting the Union at Chancellorsville, Virginia, the granite monument was a point of pride for residents of this neighborhood. If Americans are “really, really down,” as President Joe Biden suggests, it’s hardly surprising. Many key aspects of economic, social and national life that were once viewed as smoothly running certainties are out of joint. The Covid-19 pandemic, though it has eased its deadly grip, has left a complicated legacy of challenges that are still disrupting daily life. Some are aggravations – like the more than 800 airline flights cancelled on Sunday. Others threaten Americans’ economic prospects and sense of safety and wellbeing, like the growing fears of a recession. Such an atmosphere is sure to breed new turmoil in a nation seeing widening ideological divides ahead of midterm elections that

When the gender equity legislation known as Title IX became law in 1972, the politics of transgender sports was not even a blip in the national conversation. Today, it is one of the sharpest dividing points in American culture. As the transformational law heads into its second half-century on the books, the Biden administration wants transgender athletes to enjoy the same protections Title IX originally gave to women when it was passed 50 years ago. That stance is at odds with efforts in states across the country. Their model, calculated in May when just 728 cases were confirmed or suspected globally, suggests the outbreak will largely affect the men who have sex with men community, while a surge in cases among other groups is 'unlikely'.
