A 69-year-old-woman in Florida remembers telling a home invader to “back off” before shooting him dead, she says, as she recalled the day of the alleged invasion.
The United States 2nd Amendment and Florida’s Stand Your Ground state law once again helped save two innocent lives, potentially; they certainly helped stop an alleged home burglary in progress.
“Back off, dude,” are the words Orange County-based homeowner Virginia Morrison recalled shouting at the man who broke into her house in an attempted but botched robbery, according to WESH.
“I fired a shot above him,” she recounted. “‘Back off, dude, I’ll shoot you.’ And he just keeps coming toward me. So I shot him.”

She did the world a favor, and probably saved her own life. Good shooting.

Oh well, this guy won’t be "invading" any more homes ever again.

At 75, there wouldn’t have been a warning shot from me. A dead guy can’t lie.

This is the third story this week I have read about people defending themselves by shooting intruders who mean them harm. Plus there was the couple who shot a black bear who attacked them in their home. The dems would be happier if these people did not have that option.

If I were face to face with a home invader in my abode, there wouldn't be a warning shot. If I had eyes on the intruder and he had eyes on me, I would tell him to get on his face spread eagle. If he didn't, he'd get shot in a vital area and the medical examiner could come pick up his remains. It's hard not to wonder how many of us are going to meet some the Bidiot's criminal border crashers in our own homes or places of business. He wanted illegal voters. What a disaster this Resident has been. Worse than Obama, which is difficult to imagine.

I love Florida. Killing a rat is accepted as community service.

She should be exempt from any future taxes. She just saved the state a butt load of money in incarceration costs alone.

I think the warning shot was absolutely unnecessary and was a dangerous thing to do. She should have made every shot count. Wasting a show is a very dangerous risk to take, and now she may have a hole in the wall or ceiling to repair.

Re #3, legal experts are unanimous on the VERY bad form of "warning shots".
Here's how that can work in court. If you fire ANY shot, it is considered to be potentially deadly. If you fired it "in warning", that is considered legal proof that you were not, at that instant, in fear for your life, and therefore you have used potentially deadly force when you were, by your own words, not in fear for your life.
If the attack continues and it turns out like it has for this woman, often there are no legal repercussions because the situation rapidly moved into a valid "fear for life" situation and the prior act became moot.
If you fire a warning shot and then the perp stops and leaves and calls the police, in many jurisdictions you can be in deep legal trouble.
A Kansas farmer found two thieves stealing parts off a car on his very rural property. To keep them from driving away, he walked over to their car and used a shot from .22 rifle to deflate a tire, then called the sheriff. The prosecutor decided that he had assaulted them with a deadly weapon when he was not in fear for his life and he spent a year in prison and now has a felony criminal record and cannot own firearms. He fired no shots at them, but it was claimed that the direction of fire to the car was "in their direction" and it was then potentially deadly use of a firearm.
Never fire a warning shot. Your legal self defense protection is ONLY if you are in fear for your life or serious bodily injury. ONLY fire to defend yourself, and then fire at the center of mass - the middle to upper chest area. And stop firing after the assault stops. If he turns to run, stop shooting. The window of legality is very real, but it has very specific parameters.
Know your own state's self defense laws. One good thing to study is the "jury instructions" which are specific words that will be read to the jury as they go off for deliberation in a self defense case. This is usually available on line for your state. Know what the jury will specifically be told to use as a standard to judge you. Match your actions to that legal standard.

I’d shoot him first and then fire a warning shot!

Good shooting lady. Now we can just toss him and not put him back on the streets or pay for his stay in prison! Good riddance to bad rubbish!
