A California Highway Patrol officer was shot Wednesday on a major freeway in San Diego, causing it to shut down, authorities said.
The incident happened around 6:15 p.m. on eastbound Interstate 8, located just under Interstate 805 in the Mission Valley area, Captain Michael Harris of CHP said during a press conference Wednesday evening.
The officer “was investigating a traffic collision when he became involved in a struggle with a pedestrian, resulting in a single gunshot,” Harris said.

Agree with OP's good comment. Same here in Seattle. Lots of decent America loving people around.

My wife and I drove by the scene not five minutes before.
We outnumber the bad guys by a large margin. Maybe someday we'll get to put it to the test.

Prayers for our LEOs, Military and all who put their lives on the line for us.
Kudos for the good citizens, also taking risks without counting their own peril, nurses, EMTs, docs, and others.

I agree. Those are good people and are worthy of admiration. I hope all of us would react like that if the need arose.
That said, I will not go out on the "Mercy for Calfornians" limb. I've seen the damage they do when they leave their state. I've known good Moslems too. There are plenty. That doesn't mean I want them overrunning my neighborhood or influencing policy.

San Diego has a large active duty and retired military population. There are still lots of patriots out there just waiting for us to right the ship! We owe it to them to make this happen ASAP!

I believe there are a lot more R's elected but because of massive cheating by the d'rats, commiefornia stays blue. Doesn't make you wonder why the home of Reagan turned blue after they passed mass mail in ballots?

If that happened in Los Angeles county, the District Attorney would not prosecute the suspect. Cascon' would parade the good samaritans in front of a grand jury looking for civil rights abuses.

Proud native San Diegan and daughter of a Navy Vet checking in. Bravo! This is how the majority in beautiful San Diego roll. The constant disparagement of my state really ticks me off. If you think you red staters are safe…well, ha ha, no, you are not. And, btw, California was overwhelmingly RED until idiots from blue states moved here…along with the illegals due to Dem policy.

Whoa there, fellow Patriots…
You may be surprised to learn that the LA area of CA has the deepest concentration of Conservatives in all America!
Moving there to get another degree, John MacArthur shared these LA statistics… Grace Community Church had over 5K members then… In his 80’s, he continues to preach the Truth of Scripture for over 50+ years.
Yes, may God continue to bless these patriots who saw the immediate need for action to save this Officer…
Have been on that freeway; only a few miles south you are no longer in USA.
Great quick-thinking Patriots!

People should seek out proper emergency training to be able to stop serious bleeding, and establish an airway. 450 worth of proper gear (like a REAL combat proven tourniquet, and wound packing gauze) or so can stablize a gunshot or traffic accident victim and save a life.
I've taken the training, and trauma kits are in my vehicles. Think about what you would do if someone had arterial bleeding, a collapsed lung or a problem with an airway. If you don't know - perhaps you should seek training so you can possibly save a life.
Clearly at least one of those people had the necessary training (military?) but he had to ask "Does anyone have a proper tourniquet?". Be that person, save a life.
These are real life heroes, for sure. A shame that the shooter is still alive.

Kalifornia's 53 House seats and 55 Electoral Votes are something Democrats never have to worry about. So they have the resources and the ability to do mischief elsewhere. This is a great disservice and harm that Californians are inflicting on the rest of America. I have little sympathy for them.

It is good to see decent citizens still exist in California. If the Progressives had their way everybody would have passively stood around and watched the California Highway Patrol officer bleed out and the shooter would have been allowed to get away.

I'm in San Diego and know that we are made of different stuff than the political clowns in LA and SF. We are still a military town. I loathe 8, a nasty highway full of junk that falls off illegal alien trucks and always the scene of cars that drive too fast with some accident or another.

And while several stepped up and worked to save the Law Enforcement officer, a couple of ferals were standing on the divider laughing, giggling, and shooting video with their cellphones.

I would love to see California's ship get righted. It can happen with the right leadership.
San Diego, one of my favorite cities to visit in the country will be okay because the core of the area is strong and conservative.

I saw a bunch of white supremacists helping this Officer.
If an Officer is in trouble he had better hope he has some white supremacists around to help him.

That this happened on a busy highway probably helped the situation. The citizens weren't scared shiteless to stop and help. Had this happened 'downtown' in blue cities, I think this would have a different outcome.
To add to #12, if you can carry legally, do it all the time. The perp in this one could have started shooting randomly.

Sorry, that was supposed to be $50 of gear. A proper tourniquet like the CAT Gen7 or the SOFTT, costs about $30 or so, and is very quick to use, and proven effective in combat.
Our gun club had a course taught by a local EMT/fireman. He taught an 8 hour course with the actual gear, and detailed the basics of stabilizing a seriously injured patient. Airway problems and bleeding can kill in minutes, and a collapsed lung can also do it. Preventing death from these injuries, whether gunshot or car accident is well within the capabilities of any person who desires to learn, and is willing to spend $50 or $75 for the required equipment. Mine is carried in a 6x8 inch nylon bag, one in each car.
You can do this, if you want to. The life you save could be a loved one, or your own. The top two tourniquets are designed to be used on the victim with one hand if need be.

When you start thinking that all of California is “Commiefornia”, remember this: These bystanders in San Diego detained a man who’d just shot a CHP Trooper & provided aid to the Trooper. There still are conservatives trapped in California. Proud of all who gave aid to the officer.
