The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 809 points, or 2.4 percent today, as investors sold stock amidst concerns of coming recession. The Dow faced a significant decline since trading opened this morning. By the market’s close, it had reached one of its lowest closing values in the past year. Similar declines were observed on other market indices – including the S&P 500, which fell by 2.8 percent, and the Nasdaq Composite (comprising technology company stock), which lost 4 percent of its value. Most experts ascribed the loss to stocks by big technology companies, whose increases in value have come to represent a sizeable portion of market indices.

While draft opinions are subject to change and no actual ruling has been made, the misleading report from Politico has caused much predictable pouncing and seizing and pearl-clutching amongst The Usual Suspects, who are putting out calls to “burn it all down.” Some are even marching in front of a now-barricaded Supreme Court building as we speak similar to the hysteria

It’s shocking. Not that the Supreme Court would overturn Roe, but that someone would presumably leak a draft opinion (we don’t know if it is the current one) to change the ruling. Chief Justice John Roberts reverences the integrity of the Court. That a decision was leaked is abhorrent — and one so critical to who we are as a nation! Someone was trying to undermine constitutional law by leaking it.
The Court has been wrong for nearly 50 years about abortion. Some cheap stunt should not change matters.

Liberals love to bleat on these days about how Republicans have been breaching “democratic norms,” but late today one of the most sacrosanct norms of our political order was breached: Someone leaked a draft Supreme Court opinion striking down Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey in the pending case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Association.
The opinion, drafted by Justice Samuel Alito, is 98 pages long, and I’m going to want to read through it carefully before offering conclusions or analysis. But some of the language in the opinion on a first skim seems promising, such as “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start.” Heh:
