Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is a smart guy, and he’s also a highly skilled politician. But with the complete derangement we’ve been witnessing from the left, combined with DeSantis’ utter ballsy-ness, the section of the Culture War battlefield currently occupied by DeSantis looks like a Marine Corps Battalion fighting against the local Cub Scouts Troop. He’s a man among boys, and he’s not letting up. In an announcement from the governor’s office yesterday, DeSantis “called on lawmakers to review independent special districts established prior to Nov. 5, 1968.”

Comments:

He's relentless. Love this guy.

This was all over our Local Evening News (coming out of Orlando) The Announcers were trying not to SAY anything negative about DeSantis, but you could tell from their facial expressions they were appalled at what he did! They interviewed people who had "scanned" the Books in Question and said they didn't find anything inappropriate. Yeah Right! DeSantis did the right thing. I hope we have more and more Governors who will step in and say "NOT in My State"!!

I love imagining Disney executives coming to see DeSantis, hats in hand, begging him not to eliminate their special deal. This is gonna cost them millions.

Sort of like the tax-free privileges of churches. Do the good deeds and charitable work OK - but cross into political manipulation all bets are off (and all tax-free privileges should be gone.)

When Florida collects the tax bill, it accepts the responsibility for all sorts of services. Disney will fight any change, any tax assessment as too high, and turn it into a fight over the state vindictively penalizing a corporation operating well within the law and its rights. Should make a bunch of lawyers rich.

I agree with DeSantis and the effort to eliminate Disney's special privileges, but I also bear in mind how many people work for Disney who are aghast at the Board's woke-worship and pedophilia, yet too scared to speak up. I think that they ought to bring a class action lawsuit up against the Board for forcing them to comply by threatening their employment.

Alec Baldwin is now claiming to be “exonerated” of any wrongdoing in his fatal shooting of a set member that occurred in late 2021. The D-list actor, a staunch anti-Trump figure liberal firebrand, has previously claimed he did not actually pull the trigger and that he holds no responsibility for the tragic incident. (related Alec Baldwin Makes Stunning Claim About Shooting on ‘Rust’ Movie Set) Now, a new report from the New Mexico Occupational Health and Safety Bureau has determined that gross negligence occurred on the set, fining the film company the maximum penalty of $136,793. Yet, Baldwin says the report exonerates him, relieving him of any liability for the shooting.

There’s been a lot of big news over the last several months regarding John Durham’s investigation into the origins of the Trump-Russia collusion hoax. The trial of Michael Sussman, who recently lost a bid to dismiss the case, is coming up shortly, and the most recent filing points to a wide range of targets for Durham. Yet, there’s also something else buried in those revelations: It looks like Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous Trump Dossier, is going to get off scot-free. For the evidence of that, I’ll turn to someone far smarter and more experienced than me on such legal issues, my RedState colleague, Leslie McAdoo Gordon.

In this installment of their weekly Sunday Six conversation, PF Whalen and Parker Beauregard of The Blue State Conservative discuss six prominent leftist activists that they find extremely stupid and annoying. #6: Professional athlete and political ignoramus Lebron James Parker: LeBron James has certainly earned a spot on this list. James, who unquestionably belongs in the conversation as one of the best NBAers in history, stupidly waded into the political fray some time ago and never looked back. His activism will be a blemish on his otherwise stellar athletic legacy. Michael Jordan once said “Republicans buy shoes too” – or something to that effect –

Donald Trump held a rally in North Carolina on Saturday night, but it wasn’t the normal theatrics and hilarity that the former president delivers that made the biggest impression. Rather, it was an endorsement that seems to have come out of nowhere, and I’ll go so far as to say it may be his worst ever (yes, worse than Morgan Ortega) — at least as a Republican politician. Honestly, I know some people take umbrage with anyone ever questioning Trump’s decision-making, but this is truly a head-scratching moment. I’m not sure offering endorsements to people based on them being on TV for a long time is the best strategy.

We first witnessed Amy Coney Barrett’s affability and strength in the face of adversity during her confirmation hearings in 2020. She put on quite a display as Democrats did everything possible to shake and disrupt her. It didn’t work. And we got a glimpse of that sturdiness again this week when Barrett was being interviewed during an appearance at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. The video below picks up after a heckler had interrupted Barret while she answered a question about the media attention she had to endure. What the troublemaker had shouted was mostly inaudible, but it sounded like something about “enslaver of women,”

Shortly after a mass shooting occurred in Sacramento, California early Sunday, Joe Biden was busy using the tragedy to beat the drum for more gun control across the country – despite the fact that California arguably has what are the nation’s strictest gun control laws, and despite not having any facts about the shooting or the shooters. Other gun control activists quickly jumped aboard the train. The actual story, which most of the mainstream media will likely attempt to erase, has nothing to do with lax gun control laws and everything to do with the “reimagining” of the justice system

A little over a decade ago, two researchers at Wharton published a paper showing that, despite women’s increasing work and educational opportunities, their self-reported happiness was in steady decline. Back in 1970, women were on average happier than men; they are now less happy than men. Broadly, since 1970, everyone has gotten more miserable. But the decline in women’s overall happiness has outpaced men’s, and the happiness curve inverted sometime in the early 1990s. The paper also documents increasing anxiety and neuroticism, as well as decreasing social cohesion among women.

Shares of Netflix plunged 37% Wednesday morning after the streamer reported earnings Tuesday evening that showed it lost subscribers for the first time in more than ten years. The results and weak outlook led to a wave of downgrades from Wall Street over fears of the company's long-term growth potential. Netflix said several headwinds are impacting growth, including competition and the easing pandemic restrictions. The company had been significantly boosted by coronavirus stay-at-home orders, as more people sought out digital entertainment. But people spent less time on digital platforms as vaccines rolled out and mandates eased. Slower household broadband growth also played a role in the company's weak forecast.

President Joe Biden has reportedly told former President Barack Obama that he intends to run for re-election in 2024. He wanted to be president for decades, so his desire to keep the Oval Office is unsurprising. But the case for a second term is quite weak — and voters know it even if Democrats in dreamland don’t.Inflation is at its worst in 40 years, erasing wage growth. Crime is surging in many major cities. Employers are struggling with labor shortages. Illegal immigration could top 2 million encounters this year, amid a border crisis that has been spiraling out of control since virtually the moment Biden took office.
