The state housing department is gearing up to send stern warnings to cities trying to skirt a new housing law advocates hope will bring more affordable housing. Senate Bill 9, a state law that went into effect Jan. 1, allows property owners to build duplexes and in some cases, fourplexes, on most single-family parcels across the state. Cities, more than 240 of which opposed the bill, have pushed back against the state with ordinances that would severely curb what property owners can build. The Housing and Community Development Department confirmed it has received complaints about 29 such cities it told

Very reminiscent of the scene in "Dr. Zhivago" - - where the proletariat masses - - backed by commie guns - - take over the Zhivago mansion - - and turn it into a pig sty.
Coming soon to a manicured suburban town near you.

Like everything else in CA, the state is all in to “enforce the law” against property owners, but if you want to break the law to shoot up, shoplift or take a dump on a public sidewalk, no problem! Thankfully we escaped CA last year.

There used to be a really cool video about how Los Angeles County would look if single-famioly dwellings were phased out.
The GREEN cover throughout the county would slowly disappear almost completely.
Apartments might support a single tree and some shrubs, but homes support multiple trees.
There are so many reasons this is a bad idea.

We have 39.5mil people in Calif and we don't have enough water for the present population. The Democrat leaders keep thinking up more ways to add to the population with no thought to increasing the water supply. I have lived through several droughts in Calif and the drought we're experiencing now is particularly bad. The drought we had in the late 70's was also very bad but the population was only 22mil. The Democrat leaders and their sycophant voters are against more water holding like dams, might hurt some unknown fish. Maybe I'm just stupid but if the oceans are going to rise and overwhelm cities along the coast of Calif why don't we build desalination plants? I can't seem to get an answer that really makes sense. I know something about using too much energy and increasing greenhouse gas emissions. Maybe they should try looking at what electric cars do to the environment

Obama started this program of forced integration as the new penalty would be a withholding of federal funds from local and state government agencies dependent on HUD grants if they fail to push greater diversity. The way those agencies interact with developers, realtors, homeowners associations and others would need to reflect the federal push for diversity.

Amen, #16. This is just the latest version of Ted Kennedy’s NIMBY protest against offshore wind turbines near his Hyannis home.

I live in an apt building with 24 apartments. It is peaceful here. Nice owners. Nice tenants.
Just a block over is the subsidized housing. It isn't always peaceful over there. It is the start of the boom box season.

Rowhouses as far as the eye can see! Pack those people in like rats!
Does everyone know what rats do when they live in overcrowded conditions? They eat one another! Yet California wants to do the same thing to people.

Hey, you had the numbnutz on a recall vote and put him back in, stop squawking and welcome your new neighbors. Why don't they just build twenty-story high rises back about fifty miles from the coast for those new immigrants and homeless drug addicts who love that California weather? If they are lucky they can have water supplies in about ten years, after good snowfalls.
