A Nasa plan to beam Earth’s location into outer space could inadvertently trigger an alien invasion, Oxford scientists have warned. The binary-coded ‘Beacon In The Galaxy’ message will broadcast information about the solar system, Earth’s surface and humanity to a part of the Milky Way identified as the most likely home of extraterrestrial civilisations. It is an updated version of the Arecibo message, which sent similar information into space in 1974 using a radio telescope in Puerto Rico.

Our location has been "beamed" into space for 150 years.

Everybody panic and get the alien vaccine, or else. We're gonna need higher taxes to get through this.

If aliens were sophisticated enough to get the message and respond to it by coming to earth they would have already done so.

"Scientists warn". Really? How many scientists. Exactly 2 fringe researchers who have exactly no data on which to build such a warning. But hey, catchy headline.

Hypothetically speaking, I would be deeply embarrassed and ashamed if one of those aliens demands of me to “Take me to your leader.”

We can always rent hotel rooms for them, give them EBT cards, ensure they have the best health care, pay for trans surgery, and ensure their kids are educated in the best schools.
Oh, and since they’re “aliens,” they won’t be “illegal.”

When you consider our knowledge of modern physics--real and theoretical--sending a message like this into space may not be a good idea. There is some evidence to suggest that earth has been visited in the past. Ancient paintings in Australia, for example, which are many thousands of years old depict on the walls of caves a standard 'grey' alien so popular in modern culture.

Our TV signals were broadcast in all directions for decades. Aliens intercepting those would infer far more about our planet than its location.

Most of the Nasa crowd think interstellar empires are impossible - too much lag in communications and commerce. They don't believe FTL is possible, and if it was, would gladly subjugate the rest of us to get their hands on it.
They don't really get the "Exterminate local inhabitents and take over the real estate" concept unless it applies to them personally.

What scientists? Any advanced civilization already knows where we are. They leave us alone because we are no threat to them, and we're probably viewed as a science experiment. They keep an eye on the experiment from time to time.

Assuming the speed of radio transmissions to be the speed of light, and that such transmission have been powerful enough for roughly the last century... these transmissions have reached no further than 100 light years from our solar system.
Now, assuming our nearest stellar neighbor received these transmissions as soon as they arrive, and were prepared to head out the next 'day' (who knows what a day is to them...) then they would have left alpha centauri in our year 1926. Traveling at 5 miles per second, the aliens would be hear to see what all the fuss was about with Babe Ruth and the New York Yankees in the Year of our Lord... 163,472 A.D.

Acting as a beacon for illegal aliens is bidet policy. Bidet hopes they bring some children with them. He loves to have children sit in his lap he says. But if they bring corn pop he can handle that too. Maybe they have some really tricked out ice cream. Will they get here in time to vote in the nov elections? You know, schmoe has some alien blood too- notice the high cheek bones and his mother told him family stories about it.
