In pursuit of zero COVID, China starves

For some time now, China has presented itself as a rapidly ascending nation that is completely in charge of its destiny and one that escaped COVID with little harm. However, that appearance may be illusory and China may be more unstable than the image it promotes to the world. (snip) You don’t have an effective Zero COVID policy when your largest city (Shanghai) has such an aggressive COVID outbreak that you lockdown all 26 million people. And you don’t have a stable regime when those 26 million people claim that, in service to that draconian lockdown, they’re beginning to starve to death.

China is evil and it is being supported by American corporations, American athletes, and the American entertainment industry. Worst of all, many in the political class eagerly support this vile secretive nation. China is moving forward with its plan to become THE superpower in the world and far too many Americans profit from Chinese largesse while ignoring the genocide that is happening there. One thing the Chinese have learned is they can buy American support regardless of the atrocities committed on their own people. A government that will not protect its own citizens is not to be trusted. Unfortunately, we are very much like China in that regard.

No matter how bad things have been in the entire history of the U.S., even during the Civil War, I have not read of mass starvation and death between our shores. I’m reasonably optimistic that this country can ride out any food shortages. I’m talking about wholesale famines as happened in Ukraine in the 1930’s where vast numbers of people died.

Weekly meetings with people in Shanghai that we've come to know very well. They are all under house arrest and being able to get food delivered is a day-by-day effort. They are often hungry and always worried. I described that as "unimaginable here". They asked so I explained that our Constitution doesn't allow our government that level of control over us... and, we have guns. They found that "unimaginable".

When you have a country that has 1.5 billion people and a government that doesn't really care about them all that much, losing 26 million or 260 million isn't a big deal. For those in control, it's fewer people who can cause trouble and fewer people to feed.

FTA: "China continued to expand its reach with the Belt and Road initiative, building and seizing seaports and airports in poor countries around the world, and its man-made islands allowing it to push further into the South China Sea." And this "initiative" has more than 70 countries officially signed on (including Panama and much of South and Latin America), and others who are playing along without signing the dotted line (Mexico, for example). The Chinese peg their financial investments and contractual cooperation for '21 in 144 countries at about US$59.5 billion. That's chump change, less than our left-behinds in Afghanistan. And that "initiative" doesn't include troops or bombs to bring the locals into submission to establish "democracy". This could have been a very worthwhile path for the "Leader of the Free World" to pursue, had the USA had a foreign policy and tamed its "Cold War" tendencies. What could the USA have accomplished with its economic power that military power hasn't and cannot deliver?

Widberg gets Sen. Marshal's state wrong, it is KS, not KY. He's from Kansas, and at best a mediocre, quiet, "follows Deep State orders" kind of a useless mess. He got put in place because the Dems and Deep State Repubs paid a couple of nobodies a lot of money in the senate Repub primary to split the votes, denying Kris Kobach, a strong, outspoken, real conservative, the win in the primary. A eastern Kansas plumber with a large business and lots of ads on the radio for years for his plumbing company with a nice little singing jingle with his name in it was one and the other was another person who had never been in any politics before. And, amazingly, (not) they had very well funded campaigns with LOTS of ads touting their "conservative ideas"....and managed to peel off enough uneducated votes from Kobach to give the win to Marshal in the primary. It was a foregone conclusion that the Dem would lose in the general election, so the real election was the poorly attended Republican primary, where these two 'fake' conservatives were almost certainly paid to split the conservative vote and elect another 'blank slate' Senator who will do has he is told.

When will people realize that China lies? They lie with such a straight face that even when they tell the truth, nobody believes them. They have been starving their citizens for a very long time, and unfortunately, American interests from athletics to Hollywood have been bowing to the Chinese Dragon for decades now. China is a horror show, and they are in such bad shape economically right now, no wonder they have greedy eyes on Taiwan. Personally, I think there is a new disease of some kind in Shanghai running amok right now. But per usual behavior of Beijing officials, they will never admit to it or its existence.

Pope Francis is at it again. Although it is traditional for papal podiums to depict the crucifix, during his recent visit to the island of Malta, Pope Francis ditched the cross lest he offend Muslim migrants. As the archdiocese of Malta openly admitted, “The podium will not be adorned with a crucifix, given that the majority of migrants are Muslim.” Instead, the podium backdrop used by Francis consisted of recycled plastic bottles with red blobs meant to highlight the two primary reasons Francis was visiting Malta -- to defend migrants and the environment:

Very often, when companies go woke, it turns out that the wokeness is a cover for changing market forces. That is, they're not alienating traditional demographics; they're reflecting that their money is coming from new demographics. When it comes to Hollywood and the NBA, for example, the big bucks are coming from China, not America. And when it comes to Disney, the main profit center isn't children; it's young adults who, Peter Pan–like, refuse to grow up. The brilliant Daniel Greenfield makes this point in an article entitled "Disney's Business Model is Turning Kids into Dysfunctional Adults: Its customer base isn't kids. It's messed up adults."
