Winter Park police have released body camera video of the circumstances that led to a man being shot and killed at a wedding in Winter Park.
Daniel Knight, the bride’s uncle, is seen surrounded by other guests at the Winter Park Events Center on Morse Boulevard.
Winter Park police got a 911 call from the city’s new events center Feb. 19.
“I have a very irate, drunk guest. He’s trying to beat people up. He’s yelling,” the 911 caller said.
Two officers responded and were directed to Daniel Knight, 39, who was reportedly battering guests at his niece’s wedding.

"Knight then punches Officer 2 in the head, knocking him to the ground and police say Knight continues to strike that officer in the head after the officer is down."
"“You didn’t have to f—— shoot him,” one woman screams."
What would you suggest the officer do? He is on the ground, being beaten. The TASER did not work, no one else is attempting to restrain the drunk, what other choice did the officer have?

You don't want the police to possibly shoot a family member - then don't call them for help. Take care of it yourselves. The police have a limited range of solutions. One of those is to use a gun. I wish someone would invent better non-lethal means to take someone down but until then calling the police risks results NO ONE wants.

If a taser had no affect it sounds like more than liquor was involved. Million dollar + wedding present to the newlyweds I’m sure.

After looking up photos of the uncle he looks like a big man and if he shook off the taser he would have been considered pretty dangerous to the officers in my civilian opinion.

FTA: "He’s our brother. It’s his first wedding.”
Really? He's a 39 year old man. Likely well known as a mean guy, drunk or sober, but meaner when drunk. I have a cousin like this. If the story is as purported, I have no problem with the shooting. They tried non-lethal and it failed. The guy was apparently an animal. Who knows what Uncle Dan would have done to the downed officers. A few kicks to the head...a few more punches to the face...

Knight 39yo was the father to 4 daughters...But this was his 1st wedding?
His nieces parents weren't ever married? None of his other family friends had ever been married?
911caller, on their 3rd call sez..."Now he has some older woman by the throat and is choking her, I think it may be his mother"
"Knight's family held a news conference Tuesday night in Lakeland with Black Lives Matter Restoration Polk Inc., according to WFTV Channel 9. At the conference, his family said Knight wasn't irate or violent during the reception at the Winter Park Events Center."
His mother sez..."He wasn't hurting me, he was just helping me sit down because my feet hurt, he was a goood boy"

Some people should never drink alcohol. They turn ugly when they do. This fool would still be alive if he had stayed away from the booze.

They will find out that this 'wonderful peace loving man' had more than alcohol in his system. I don't know what people expect from the police. This family calls the police because this 'wonderful man' is beating up on the guests. When the police arrive he attacks them and he eventually gets shot and the family is now mad at LEO! Give me a break. Police did nothing wrong.

The screaming woman who wouldn't listen to orders to step back out of the confrontation should have been tasered first.
If you don't want someone shot at your family function don't call 911 for the police. The police have limited resources to deal with wild dangerous apes. With the failure of tasers, pepper spray on certain subject animal tranquilizer gun should be considered until then the 9mm handgun is the last resort.

Re#9. Machine pistol. What are you talking about, man? One can fire EIGHT rounds, in rapid succession, with a REVOLVER! A Smith & Wesson Model 627, for one example. Most semi-automatic pistols carried by police have magazines capable of holding from ten to twenty rounds. No "machine pistol" required.
If one feels inclined to comment about firearms, one should seek out reliable, factual information.

Family is now upset about the police video...because....
Police had not told them there was a video, police withheld that fact until AFTER they had interviewed all 100 guests/witnesses.
Now...family/witness statements differ from the actual video.

Anyone who attacks an openly armed person is effectively committing suicide.
Being under the infuence of drugs or alcohol, doesnt matter. If you are close enough to grab the gun of the person you attacked, you are a lethal threat, and lethal actions are reasonable.
Blame the uncle. He made his last mistake on this earth.

Poster 9, once the decision to shoot is made, you fire till they stop attacking you. Center mass.
A lot of big men can temporarily shrug off 9mm rounds - at least until there are enough holes to drop the blood pressure. Police usually have guns with 13 rounds in the clip, so he didnt empty the gun. He showed restraint.

Any semi-auto can fire seven shots in about 1-2 seconds with no difficulty.

This is a brand spanking new venue in town and I read there were 200 guests. Not a cheap affair. It happened about a month and a half ago. Thank God for the body cam because the family has been vocal in their outrage that it was unjustified and he was just a sweet, harmless little fuzzball.

It’s a calculated risk whenever you call the police in a domestic dispute. The death of a relative is distinct possibility. Unless a weapon is involved families are better off dealing with this themselves. Certainly there were four strong young men there who could have settled the crazy uncle down.

Saw a longer video where the officer said the man hit him in the back of the head and tried to take his taser.
Also there is the suggestion that it was one of the event staff that called 911.

typical domestic situation: first, you call for help because your life or lives of other people are in danger and second, you condemn the police for protecting themselves and the people in close proximity to this calamitous situation by terminating the danger, most conclusively

There are happy drunks who can handle their liquor and control their emotions and then there are angry drunks who go off just after the slightest disagreement. He happened to be the latter and probably should've controlled his drinking. I think people like that are lucky they are not dead already acting up on the wrong one. The shooting was justified if you ask me! The reaction of his family wasn't!
