A resurfaced blackface photo wasn’t enough to get Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau or former Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam fired, but a medical researcher was forced out of her senior vice president position last month after dressing up as Michael Jackson for Halloween in 2009. Dr. Julie Overbaugh was an award-winning senior vice president at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (“Fred Hutch”) and a faculty member at the University of Washington Medical Center. She’s known for her research on HIV in Kenya. But her career is being ruined over a costume. (Snip) The photo immediately triggered an internal investigation at Fred Hutch, where she was placed on administrative leave.

Comments:

An anonymous coward and leftist activist administrators destroy a woman's career over an old Halloween photo.

That people actually take this sort of nonsense seriously, as if it mattered is a sad commentary on the sickness, cowardice and stupidity of modern US society. All who took part in this horror show are evil people.

I think the solution is pretty obvious...everyone must start wearing blackface and acting black. And if anyone challenges you, well, beat them up, steal their car, and go on The View or Ellen to be praised for how courageous you are... Problem solved.

Totally unjustified! The DEI nags in institutions have enormous power to destroy their hosts. This will cost the Hutch about $100 million in lost revenue and donations. It will not make the life of a single individual of any identity better. It will end the career of half a dozen esteemed and valuable research scientists. Stoopid!

First of all, she didn't need black face to imitate Michael Jackson. He told us all, on that interview with Barbara Walters that he had a skin condition that caused large white splotches, (loss of melanin)so he used white makeup to even out his skin tone. Second, when a person dresses up like a celebrity, isn't that a compliment? Elvis never complained about the thousands of Elvis imitators. It was good for business. Our culture is going to reach a breaking point, and people will blow up on the whiners, as well as the cowardly administrators. I say we give Kevin Hart full rein to go after these fools.

She didn't have to get in blackface to impersonate Michael Jackson, he used enough whitener, and surgery to impersonate a white person. It's funny they don't hold Michael guilty for trying to be white, but they get their bowels in an uproar over someone dressing like him.

And yet if a man dresses as a woman, it's perfectly O.K. And this is why those men who put on women's ridiculous clothing, outrageous wigs, make-up and call themselves drag queens are committing hate crimes. It is offensive to me and other real women. Why aren't they called out for those hate crimes?

Minorities, femi-nazis, and other lie-berals do far worse things than she did on a daily basis with no consequences. America is still buying Russian oil, thereby funding, in part, President Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked, unjustified and uncivilized invasion of Ukraine. Yet at the same time, American organizations are canceling Russian musicians who do not directly denounce Putin, the man who wields power over not just their livelihoods but their lives. It’s easy to make smug, self-congratulatory grand gestures. It’s harder to consider the complications of music-making in a time of war — and the danger of putting political prohibitions on art and artists. Conductor Valery Gergiev and soprano Anna Netrebko are arguably the two greatest Russian classical musicians of our time. New York cultural powerhouses showed both the door

Within MAGA circles, talk is turning increasingly to impeaching Joe Biden after the midterm elections—assuming, of course, the Republicans retake the House of Representatives (which appears likely). Unfortunately, actual removal would require 60 votes in the Senate. Even under the most favorable scenario, it’s unlikely the GOP will pick up more than four Senate seats.  Nonetheless, with the strong likelihood the Republicans will take control of the House, impeaching Biden looks viable. Why? Well, for the same reason a Democrat-controlled House impeached Donald Trump—twice.  The Democrats used the impeachment process to persuade millions of middle-of-the-road and independent voters that Trump had done something terribly wrong.
