She could be America’s next Olympic darling — a stunning 18-year-old skier who signed with Victoria’s Secret and plans to attend Stanford after she vies for gold in Beijing.
But Eileen Gu won’t be competing for the US.
Instead, in a move that’s baffled members of the American skiing community, San Francisco-born-and bred Gu has joined Team China. (Snip) “She became the athlete she is because she grew up in the United States, where she had access to premier training grounds and coaching that, as a female, she might not have had in China,” Hudak told The Post. “I think she would be a different skier if she grew up in China.

It's all about lucrative endorsements from the CCP. It would be funny in China won't let her depart the country when the games are over.

#3, that is outside the available remedies for her action, as appealing as it may sound. Quite likely she was told that relatives still in China may suffer unfortunate consequences unless she competes for the motherland. What's to be done?
First, the American team needs to make sure this ingrate gets nowhere near the podium.
It's too much to expect that Stanford will change its mind, but hopefully she will lose out on any endorsements.

How ironic that she is using her freedom as an American to compete for a country that would deny her the freedom to compete for us.

Though she was born in the U.S. her mother is Chinese and is the one who has pushed her to be so successful. Any female born alive in China in the last 45 years has to be pretty competitive right from the moment of conception.

It's pretty easy to compete on foreign Olympic teams. I think you just have to have a connection to the country.
A number of years ago, Becky Hammond, a then-WNBA star (and now an assistant coach for the NBA San Antonio Spurs and just recently named head coach of the WNBA Las Vegas team) used to play for a Russian team in the WNBA-off season. She ended up competing on the Russian Olympic team.

Half Chinese, she uses her mother’s surname. And her mother is her CCP manager-monitor, I’ll bet. Her father (an American) wants to keep a low profile. Can you blame him for that? Unfortunately, Moms rules their roost. This story isn’t over.

#8, probably none. The US government doesn't support US Olympic athletes, unlike Russia and probably, China. I'm pretty sure money was involved in her decision.

Who honestly cares? The Olympics is a pay-for-play orgy for the athletes, the equipment manufacturers, the sponsors, television outlets, and countless others besides the host area.
So she "skis for China"...big deal. Victoria's Secret sells underwear globally. Did you read the story and see the picture of her with her billboard skis and clothing? Cadillacs are among the largest selling brand of cars in China - 233,117 Cadillacs delivered there in 2021 compared to 118,032 in the US. Oh, please, please ski for the USA, Eileen...you're a commie traitor if you don't.
C'mon...get real.

She's been outsourced to China. American Companies large and small do it all the time. One day, she'll realize something grossly diabolical about the country and the people. That's when she realizes she can no longer leave the country and submit to the diplomatic authorities for a sexual favor. Being stuck on STUPID has its consequences.

There is rather a lot of information on Gu’s status - citizenship, etc. - in this VOA article. Neither the US nor China allows dual citizenship. And the IOC rules say:
According to Rule 41 of the IOC Charter, "1. Any competitor in the Olympic Games must be a national of the country of the NOC which is entering such competitor. 2. All matters relating to the determination of the country which a competitor may represent in the Olympic Games shall be resolved by the IOC Executive Board."
Gu also needs to comply with International Ski Federation (FIS) and National Olympic Committee rules. The FIS lists her as a Chinese athlete.
"A skier must be licensed by their home country to represent that nation, so Eileen Gu must have officially changed her license. According to Chinese media reports she did this in 2019 when she was 15," Masteralexis said.
Although Masteralexis thinks Gu is following both the IOC and FIS rules, she said, "It has been reported in Chinese media going back 2-3 years that Eileen Gu was granted Chinese citizenship and China does not recognize dual citizenship. The US does recognize dual citizenship, so one does wonder if China has created an exception for Gu.”
Or she has dropped her U. S. citizenship? This VOA article reveals many efforts to find out her true status.

Her Anglo blood surely prevails when it comes to Gu’s appearance. She states that she was raised by her mother and grandmother. No mention of a father.

To quote Dave Barry: "The problem with winter sports is that — follow me closely here — they generally take place in winter." If the cutie was in beach vollyball I might give her a look. But people with 2 by 4 on their feet sliding down a hill doesn't float by boat.
