After Leaving Fox News

Jonah Goldberg, one of the two conservative political analysts who resigned from Fox News Channel in colorful fashion over the direction of its coverage, is joining CNN as a contributor, the WarnerMedia network confirmed Monday. Goldberg, a longtime editor at National Review and a founder of The Dispatch, will appear on CNN programs as news networks gear up for the 2022 midterm elections. He and another popular conservative commentator, Stephen Hayes, took to the “Media Equation” column of The New York Times in November to say they were cutting ties with Fox News Channel, where they had been contributors since 2009. Used to enjoy Jonah when he had some humor in his columns. Last time I read anything he wrote it was like the Hog Market Report. Didn't even know he was on Fox. Friendly advice for Jonah: If you are on a life boat don't get back onto the Titanic.

CNN? Really, Jonah? Useful Idiot is beneath you, or used to be. I used to read, admire and respect him. No more. He's lost influence, and he hates it. Post- Trump, the Jonah's and the David French's, Kristol's, et. al., can pen accolades to each other, but they're history in the conservative movement. Say goodnight, Jonah. You're done. We're both dog lovers though, but that's about it. 10-1 this thread disappears as quickly as yesterday's NR post, which contained similar reactions. Watch.

Lucianne, our wonderful host for so many years, deserves our utmost respect and affection. I may be disappointed with Jonah, but these are strange times when many people don´t seem to be themselves. I have no fear whatever that this thread will "disappear" any time soon. Our host is an honest journalist who´s undoubtely seen rougher times than this. Jonah gets to have his opinion, in whatever organization he chooses. (I still think "Liberal Fascism" was one of the best political books in decades.) Still, CNN?!? Yikes. I wish Jonah well.

Lol! Jonah leaves Fox to protest their coverage and joins CNN where the coverage includes their own history of harboring pedos, boinking the subjects you report on, and commentators who give themselves a happy ending in front of Zoom cams. Realty: he left a star studded lineup where he was invisible, to join Hedonism Ii where he hopes to look good by comparison. Pathetic. The beat goes on. So to speak.

Very sad story. Jonah used to have principles and did a good job explaining them and why we should follow them. Then he started seeking his own agenda and people who followed him realized he was going off his own tracks. His ego keeps digging him in ever deeper. He has irreparably poisoned his value to Conservatism. Lately, he, like many ephemeral Conservatives, has decided his future is to save a Dem party lurching ever Leftward. Here's some news about the dems Jonah; it's like trying to fix a toxic waste dump. It can't be purified, it can only be buried. Jonah seems to have early onset liberal dementia. A Conservative mind, what a terrible thing to waste.

It's one of those cases where his move from Fox to CNN has improved both places. He's very bright and will likely regain his senses once he directly experiences life on the side of the fence he once criticized accurately. My advice for accelerating that return to sanity: re-read your own excellent book, "Liberal Fascism."

Well, it happens in the Best of Families. I raised Three Children in a Conservative Home. They are are now all over 55, have raised Families of their own, and guess what. They ALL voted for Biden, even the Grandchildren! The fact that they ALL live Illinois probably has a lot to do with it. Add to that the fact that a few married a Democrat and probably the biggest cause of making them into Democrats was going to College! So, we just don't talk about Politics when we're together. Once in a while i get to sneak in a Jab, like when they are complaining their Heating Bills have doubled, or Gas at the Pump in higher or the stores shelves are empty. I just sweetly say "don't blame me, I didn't vote for Biden"! There is never a comeback from them!

I'm thankful for lucianne.com. Folks assume though that Jonah and Lucianne are opposing. Perhaps, but there is little editorial contribution from Lucianne on this site. It may simply be that the posters are given their own editorial control. That's what makes lucianne.com unique. I'm just pointing out that in a mature world, Lucianne and Jonah may get along fabulously. As it should be. On the other hand, Jonah should spend more time reading and commenting on this site and explain how a halfway intelligent person can hold the views he does.

I think if you look back on any job you've ever had, there are situations which a person accepts work to pay a family's obligations of obtaining food and shelter. After graduating with a degree in architecture, the piddling wages the firm's were willing to pay forced me to work the oil patch as a worm, then chain man, and motors to driller. I once hired a crew of friends who happened to be a graduate summa cum laude of Yale's engineering program, another who was fresh out ofJulliard School of Music, and a med school intern waiting to do his stint at th V.A. What a sorry bunch trying to poke a hole in dirt! My only thing is that my Dad always said there's no shame in doing any job that is legal and pays the bills. There’s a vibrant, exciting music scene happening in New York City — and newly elected mayor Eric Adams isn’t happy about it. In remarks to members of the press Friday, Adams expressed concerns about drill rap, the musical subgenre that has flourished in his home borough of Brooklyn over the past half-decade. He characterized the music as “alarming,” linking it to gun violence, and appeared to put further blame on social media companies. “We pulled Trump off Twitter,” Adams said. “Yet we are allowing music, displaying of guns, violence.

Over the years I’ve managed to read a couple of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher novels. It’s yet another iteration of the American Story repeated endlessly in American fiction high and low, from Huckleberry Finn to Dashiell Hammett, and from John Wayne to Clint Eastwood: A stranger wanders into town, rights the wrongs, wins the girl, leaves the girl, and continues his wandering. It’s John Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, but without the reception in the Celestial City. America from the outset has been caught in a recurring dream (sometimes a nightmare) of a journey that cannot end but only begin again.
Masks off? Democrats try for a pandemic pivot 16 replies

Democrats are making a U-turn on mask mandates, just in time for the midterms. It’s happening among the party’s governors, several of whom are easing up their masking rules as Covid’s Omicron wave fades. And it’s happening on the Hill, where Democrats are suddenly lining up to call for rollbacks of the nation’s most noticeable pandemic-era rule. Their pandemic pivot comes as they brace for a brutal November election in which the virus — and the culture war that’s accompanied it — is shaping up to be Democrats’ biggest blind spot.

The NY Times just published a story about how Republicans got out ahead of Democrats on the inflation issue. The story credits Rep. Elise Stefanik for noticing last year that prices were creeping up at the grocery store. Back when economists were still promising inflation would be transitory, Stefanik thought this could become a big issue for the GOP. Early last year, Representative Elise Stefanik of New York, who was then campaigning to become the No. 3 Republican in the House, began to notice that the prices of fruit, bacon, milk and eggs were creeping up.

Since early days, Democrats have pushed increasingly onerous regulations in response to the Wuhan coronavirus. Lockdowns — which the World Health Organization disavows except in very narrow, short-term circumstances and which are unsupported by science — have dragged on and on. Teachers unions kept schools closed month after month in blue states, and even children as young as 2 are being forced to mask despite no scientific support for doing so. Indeed, masking has become a political statement, to the point that Democrats routinely report wearing masks outdoors

Here’s a question for alert readers: when was the last RCP-tracked poll that put Joe Biden’s job-approval deficit in single digits? Contemplate that for a moment before I answer it, especially in light of today’s numbers. The last national poll tracked by RCP with a single-digit gap in Biden’s job approval came last week from the Economist/YouGov tracking poll (45/49). If that was the good news, relatively speaking, the bad news is that the same tracking poll
