The Senate late Thursday rejected a Democratic effort to alter the filibuster in order to pass their long-sought voting bills over unanimous Republican opposition, capping one of the most consequential days in the history of the chamber.
The vote failed 48-52 after Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema voted as they said they would for months, joining a unanimous Republican caucus in opposition and denying their party the necessary support for the change to take effect.

If the dem's claims are true, then this country has never had a free and fair election until 2019-2020, because midnight ballot drop boxes, ballot harvesting, and unlimited mail-in balloting were not in existence before that. .Everyone had to get off their couch, put on clothes, and actually go to the polling place with their drivers' license and voter registration card. This old fashioned way of doing things disenfranchised deceased Americans, illegal-alien Americans, and the dog and cat communitay.

Don’t get to relaxed over this. The rats will do everything they can to destroy this country. We have a long way to November and to 2024. There will be more attempts.

Far be it for me to be the one to defend Murkowski, but you are incorrect, #1:

All Republicans opposed. The extra vote was from Schumer so he could immediately call for reconsideration of the bill and object, so they could try their sham cloture vote.

#1, there was no vote on the voting rights bill because there weren't 60 votes to cut off debate. That said, Murkowski has to go. People of Alaska, please vote her out.

The only history made was watching Brandon tell lie after lie and actually believing his own cow dung. If he has one skill left, it's dodging reporters' questions, even the softballs. I didn't think he could make it through the entire presser but the teleprompter did a fantastic job. I hope everybody's hackles went up just as mine did on his answer to Afghanistan. The coward is guilty of mass murder and will never be forgiven.

I believe Manchin and Sinema have saved us (at least for the time being) from a potential irreparable disaster.
Beware! Democrats will keep these bills handy for future passage. The purpose of these unconstitutional bills is Democrat control of (at least) federal elections whereby Republicans never again elect a President of the U.S. and never again have a majority in both the House and the Senate. If these bills ever become federal law - absent an immediate court-ordered stay of both bills - massive irreparable damage can occur before the Supreme Court eventually holds that many provisions in these bills are unconstitutional, but many provisions may pass Constitutional muster.
Also, with only a few exceptions, Republicans did a damn poor job of informing the public of the numerous draconian provisions in these bills.

Watched a floor speech by Sen. James Lankford, which is about 42 minutes but outlines the Voting Rights legislation in great detail.
Loved how he was able to show, and put on the public record, that New York rejected same-day registration just in the last election, yet was part of the New York Senator Chuck Schumer's Voting Rights bill.
Crazy to think that even very blue New York rejected such a thing, but the senior Senator was supporting it anyhow.
There were many other examples, and should be widely viewed.

With the current filibuster rules in place, the majority party will simply need to actually earn the votes of 60 Senators in order to pass controversial legislation.
I guess Schumer and his fellow Democrats were frustrated because their rationale failed to convince ANY Republicans to vote with them. That is a failure by the Democrats.
When they are unable to win according to the rules, Democrats want to change the rules. How petty and unfair.

Re OP comments. I'm not sure that Tom Cotton and Tim Scott are reliable....Hawley and Jordan may be about the only Senators in addition to Ron Johnson that we have.

Winning back a Republican majority in November will be useless with tough talk/no action swamp dweller jerkoffs McConnell and Graham in charge. Replace them with some real conservatives, i.e. Jim Jordan, Tom Cotton, Tim Scott, Josh Hawley. Start handing out subpoenas and impeachments to the democrats like Mardi Gras beads. Make them have to play defense for a while.
