Astonishing footage has emerged of a man confronting a black bear on the porch of his house in Daytona Beach, Florida.
A video of the man grappling with the potentially deadly animal while attempting to protect his dogs has been widely circulated on social media.
In the footage, which was picked up on a Ring doorbell security camera, a man in a day-glo t-shirt and gray trousers can be seen quickly crouching down to grapple with the bear on the porch of a property.

There’s no time to think in that situation. Instincts kick in and he proved he’s no wuss. I was surprised to read this happened in Daytona Beach.

Daytona Beach? The only wildlife I saw there attended a race at the racetrack.

The bear held back. I remember seeing an exhibit at a park in the Smokies showing how a black bear's claws had sliced through the side of a metal food can like it was made of cheese. The photos show relatively small cuts on the man's shoulders. The bear could have gashed him open down to the bone with little effort. The guy was brave, but very lucky.

Pretty small bear - looks like it might be a cub. I’ve been pretty close to a full grown eastern black bear when out trail riding in Virginia and it was at least twice the size of that one. It probably didn’t have the huge claws of a full grown bear.

Next time we hear about this guy...
it will be the story of him being cited for building code/permitting violations, heavily fined and forced to tear down that porch.
"Govt" cannot defend you against vicious predators, no matter how many legs those predators have...but they certainly can and will destroy you over how you use your own property.
(That said, this guy just EARNED the Title of "Local Legend", fistbumps and free beers are his future)

He won't be buying the beer if I'm in the vicinity.

I have been nose to nose, less than 2feet, from a full grown brown bear, while I was on hands and knees. I had crawled out of my sleeping bag to go chase off what I had assumed was a black bear nosing around my Mt Shasta campsite. He woofed in my face, and I zipped the tent closed...headed to the opposite end and got my knife out to "make a door" if he decided to come in.
I even have a picture of him...he raided another camp about 200yds away and the little japanese girl there stepped out, snapped a shot said "Thank you" then ducked back into her tent.He was the size of a Small Car.

Unless there is additional video, his bite marks didn’t match the sttack. (At least to my untrained eye)

Bears are VERY strong, far stronger than an equal sized human. A friend, a big 6;4" guy told me once about a "wrestle the bear" attraction at a carnival, spend $2, win $10 if you aren't pinned by the bear in on minute. Bear had a muzzle, claws trimmed very short. He said it looked kinda scrawny.
The bear walked up, put paws on his shoulders and pushed him down and pinned him...one smooth move. My friend was in his 20s, a weightlifter, was shocked.
He said he felt like a 2 year old grabbed by an adult man.
I'd have fought for my puppies, too, but I wonder how he did it. Adrenaline can give superhuman strength, something my friend did not have, he was ;wrassling; for fun.
Maybe this is like the "grandmother lifts car off of child" kind of things. Adreneline when it counts.

He's one brave American. Didn’t even throw any punches or kicks just went straight to try & wrestle the bear! I'm glad he is OK, he saved his and his puppy's lives. That must have been a HUGE Adrenaline surge. There was not much sleeping that night. Just....wow!
