An energy company is pulling the plug on a controversial plan to install natural gas turbines at a power plant in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
The proposal had come under criticism as a step backward while the state government attempts to phase out fossil fuels and switch to clean sources of energy. Eastern Generation said it was withdrawing its application to replace combustion turbines at the Gowanus site—considered to be among the dirtiest power plants in the city—with natural gas units.(Snip)“With the defeat of fossil-fuel power plant expansions in Gowanus and Astoria, New York City is on its way towards a more sustainable future,” he said.

If someone could invent a power plant that would run on bullshiite, NYC would be, like, LIT...

Why the solution is simple! Just don’t use electricity until the unicorns have been caught and harnessed to the generator!
Then they’ll be plenty of electricity until someone starts a movement to prevent unicorns from having to work.
Just don’t use electricity until we can produce it unobjectionally.

No energy is clean energy. How foolish of me not to grasp this simple leftist concept.
If NYC thinks it has a crime problem now, just wait until much of the City goes dark due to the soaring price of electricity.

After the big NYC blackout in 1977, a state investigation said that the city needed more generating capacity located within its borders...These idiots are priming NYC for another major power failure.

I can remember a better time, when installing NG peaker plants was considered to be clean and was not controversial.

Ah, the "sustainable future" canard. Sustainable until the wind stops or it gets so cold the grid crashes.

a looooong time ago I remember a story where some "Prankster" hooked a plain old skyrocket from a roadside July 4th stand to a spool of fine copper wire...fired it across a regional high tension trunk line and the arc shut down the entire grid area. One day perhaps dozens or hundreds of pranksters will do something very similar, repeatedly, across wide spread areas, primarily in rural regions where there are not continuous surveillance cams, each time the breaker is reset another skyrocket will throw it again, or 100 fired across a single line will just keep tripping it. Either way...when rural people get fed up enough with the Big Cities activities, those cities will get dark, cold...and hungry. They will devour themselves 1st, then starve or surrender.

All the old oil field hands in South Louisiana & South Mississippi should remember the bumper sticker from the 70s and 80s, when drilling was banned in the Northeast, in order to save the birds. "Let them burn feathers or freeze in the dark!"

Hey, our NJ governor wants to stop natural gas for everything and the state is like 90% heated by gas. Can't wait for all the air pollution from people burning wood and coal for heat, fighting over electric rationing, and no hot water for bathing.

NG turbines are extremely efficient, and can be quickly ramped up and down to compensate for the damn near worthless "green" power, which is extremely variable, to the point of undependability.
So, NYC will have a more expensive and less reliable power grid. No skin off of my nose.
Enjoy the insanity that you have woven, NYC folks.

Noo Yawkers have the imagination to demand that 70% of its imaginary energy needs will, by 2030, be derived from unspecified imaginary renewable sources yet to be invented, and they'll store this imaginary energy in batteries located right on the waterfront, which itself need to be protected against Our Rising Seas through federal construction grants.
