An energy company is pulling the plug on a controversial plan to install natural gas turbines at a power plant in Gowanus, Brooklyn. The proposal had come under criticism as a step backward while the state government attempts to phase out fossil fuels and switch to clean sources of energy. Eastern Generation said it was withdrawing its application to replace combustion turbines at the Gowanus site—considered to be among the dirtiest power plants in the city—with natural gas units.(Snip)“With the defeat of fossil-fuel power plant expansions in Gowanus and Astoria, New York City is on its way towards a more sustainable future,” he said.

Garland, Texas—Garland police are seeking help from the public to find the 14-year-old accused of opening fire inside a convenience store Sunday, killing three people and injuring another. Five people were arrested after a group of protesters stormed a Burger King in New York on Monday night to protest the city’s COVID-19 vaccine mandates. The U.S. Constitution is the sacred text of American government and civic life. But it’s time to face facts: The document, written in 1787, isn’t working. The signs are all around us. Just 38 percent of Americans in a recent Gallup poll expressed either a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence in the presidency, down from 48 percent in 2001. Congress, never high in the public’s estimation to begin with, fell from 26 percent to a mere 12 percent. The Supreme Court has also taken a hit, down from 50 percent to 36 percent during the same period.
