The husband of Democrat Illinois State Senator Kimberly Lightford fired shots with his legal gun as she was being carjacked this week, according to reports.
The hijackers also shot at her husband, Eric McKennie, as they stole Lightford’s Mercedes-Benz SUV on Tuesday evening. "IIt was a lot of shots being fired. I think they were shooting at my husband and me and luckily enough my husband is concealed and carry and he was able to protect us,” Lightford told ABC 7.

Are carry permits available to one and all in Broadview, or only to the Special People, as in Chicago, Noo Yawk City, San Fran, and other enclaves of equality?

Illinois has had a fairly sensible 'shall issue' concealed carry law since 2013. This lawmaker got a personal demonstration of what being armed can do for you. Save your life, and apparenty, she grasps that.
In case you imagine Illinois Dems somehow FINALLY coming to their senses on this issue....no, of course not. The 'shall issue' CCW law was literally forced upon them by a federal judge. Either create a reasonable 'shall issue' CCW law in 90 days, or the judge would remove his 90 day stay on his finding that their 'may issue" (meaning, forget it for most people) system was unconstitutional. That meant anyone could carry anything, any time.
Hey wait a minute....how is that different than it has been forever in the south side of Chicago??

What was he carrying? How many shots did he fire?
Shouldn't he be charged for "Initiating" the conflict simply by being armed???
Rittenhouse was...
"Nice" that a perpetually oppressed congresscritter can overcome the mountainous road blocks whyte folks have erected in her(and every other POC's) path enough to drive a late model Mercedes SUV...and the pooooor oppressed "entrepreneurial" youths that collected that vehicle from her in justifiable "Reparations" had the wherewithal to drive a late model Dodge Durango when they did so...(At least THEY bought an American Car)

I assume they called a social worker for help talking it out with the car jackers.
Maybe the car jackers can have it on even days, they can drive it odd days and they can switch off Sundays.

Illinois has some of the harshest gun laws in the country - they also don't respect the carry permits of other states. And I've heard they go so far as to check your license plates to see if you have a permit and then loolk for any reason to pull you over and check that your gun is properly stored (i.e., not readily available), if it isn't they confiscate your gun and fine you heavily.

Typical Donk-speak from a totally ignorant demorat, who probably fears that infamous mediot invention, the "AK16 semi-automatic machine gun" which conservatives, they charge, all lust to have. And, of course it's OK for her and her family to be able to carry [and hose down the area] but not us little people.

Authorities politely concealed the gun fire involved in this incident until the holiday weekend. Democrats expect and receive deference from the media and police. Republicans get the opposite.

Thought the same thing myself, #25. I would not be a bit surprised to find out that this guy did not have a concealed carry permit or an FOID card. Most black Chicago democraps have a severe case of 'Laws are for little people' syndrome.
His sainted wife votes for every (and sponsors many) gun control bills that are introduced in the General Assembly every year, which makes her just another whopping hypocrite. Guns for me, but none for thee.
She's also a no-bail reformer, and a member of G-PAC, a 'non-partisan' PAC whose mission is 'common-sense gun control'. If you chase down their website, you will see the definition of non-partisan here means Chicago democrat, and that PAC is for raising money to attack 2A rights.

She and her fellow Democrats voted to eliminate cash bail in 2023 in Illinois. Why 2023? Wouldn't have anything to do with keeping your Brownshirts on the streets for the next Presidential election, would it?

So its okay for her husband to carry a weapon for protection, but not the rest of the citizens of Illinois? I thought they were all against guns in that state? Some very strict gun regs as I recall. From the media stories covering politics on the subject, you would think so.

#9, not sure of the husband's skin color, but wife is black. So this was black on black crime. Of course the perps may not have been able to tell this when they attacked (darkened windows?) and were making assumptions about the race of the driver and passenger.

If I read this correctly, the Perps got the car.
So.... how did Hubby's blasting away (missing with every illegal shot)
'protect' them from the Perps?
These people (the politicians AND the media covering the event) are liars on several levels.

Mary Gay Scanlon finally explains to us rubes that the increase in carjackings is the result of the pandemic. I'm glad she cleared that up. I was hoping it was not the result of a feral animal uprising around the country. They must need upper-end cars to transport sick friends and loved ones to the ER.

Actually, #20, that is outdated information.
As of 2013 if you are an out of state CCW permit holder you can be armed while inside your car traveling through Illinois. You must take the gun off and leave it in the car when you exit the car.
But the law specifically makes it legal to wear or carry your gun immediately outside your car as you move to secure it in the trunk. This "gotcha" meant that in year past if you were putting the gun in the trunk inside the state, you were illegal during the process of securing the gun. When we traveled through Illinois, before 2013, we stopped at the last rest area prior to Illinois where the guns were removed from holsters, unloaded and cased, ammo stored in a separate case, and locked in the trunk. Upon reaching the safety of the adjacent state, the process was reversed.
No longer necessary, from a close reading of the Illinois law in 2013. It was well crafted, actually. If we aren't stopping, we stay armed. If we do stop, guns stowed in car, then eat, back to armed as we drive on.
Not as good as reciprocity....but not as bad as before, either.

Everyone is way outdated on Illinois carry permit laws.
Any person who meets some basic criteria (over 21, no felonies, etc) can get a CCW permit, for the last 8 years. Still need a FOID to own the gun, but a fairly reasonable $150 fee, and paperwork and you are there.
If you meet the objective criteria....you get the permit, no more "may issue" for friends and politicians.

Hooray! Feature that husband on the conservative media. Make him the subject of a week's worth of laudatory publicity about how proper use of firearms in the minority communities will help our fellow Americans take back their communities.
