A new forecast on energy costs for heating in New York state calls for a spike in those expenses this coming winter. During an annual presentation by the state of the NY State Public Service Commission last week, staffers said that on average, statewide, consumers will be hit with about a 21% increase in heating costs over the entire winter compared to last year. Rochester Gas and Electric is forecasting about a 33% average increase over the winter for natural gas customers. Minnetonka Moccasin Co., the Minneapolis company that over 75 years popularized Native American-styled footwear across the country, issued a formal apology Monday for adopting Native American culture without acknowledgment. The company, which dropped "moccasin" from its logo in 2008, has now removed the word from much of its corporate messaging and is calling itself simply Minnetonka.

Central Maine Medical Center, a key hospital for regional healthcare, issued a dire warning about the need to shut down critical care services last week if they are forced to fire or lay-off all the unvaccinated workers.
