PRAGUE - Czech voters evicted the communists from parliament on Saturday for the first time since the end of World War Two, voting out a party whose forebears ruled the central European nation from 1948 until the Velvet Revolution of 1989 that ushered in democracy. The communists jailed tens of thousands in forced labor camps in the 1950s and brutally repressed dissidents such as playwright-turned-president Vaclav Havel, but remained in parliament following the revolution. My sainted Aunt Anna is smiling in heaven. She grew up in the Czech Alps. Her early life was similar to "Heidi's"; as the oldest of nine she was the goat girl and helped her mother with the younger children. Her father farmed a small plot and also owned cattle. Then Hitler invaded Czechoslovakia and at 14 she was forced into the Hitler Youth. When she was 16 her father was "recruited" to work in a munitions factory in Germany. Several of the boys from her village were facing conscription into the Nazi Army. One moonless night a group of about 10 of her contemporaries, boys and girls, skied their way into Austria with the plan to walk to France. She made it after about 3 or 4 months - the only one of her group as the others gave up going further at different points in the journey. Anna worked as a housemaid to earn passage to London. She was able to leave Paris one week before the Nazi's moved in. She survived the bombings of London. After the war she met my Uncle, a veteran of the Pacific War who was now an occupation soldier in Europe. It was a long courtship with many sideways turns (Korean War), but they married in London on Christmas Eve in 1954. As Anna described, "With all the church bells in London ringing!" Anna loved her freedom and she loved the United States. She hated all totalitarians. She was the only Republican in our family and everyone would shake their head when she told them the Democrats were communists. This was in the 1960's! And so, on behalf of my dearest Aunt Anna - "Hurrah! Make the Czech Republic Great Again!"

The elites, or, the ruling class, love "communism" because they are the ones who take the power, even if Lenin's "useful idiots" first do the dirty work. The elites will seize control and exercise power, whatever or however much is needed to subdue and neutralize whatever passions drove the proletariat to say they want communism as the pathway to revenge on the way to paradise. Sooner or later the proles will grow restless, once they begin to smell a rat. By then the majority of them have been neutered, not just rendered submissive. Here's where i think we we're at: for thirty years of indoctrination --"none dare call it education"-- and "idiotization" through media, and the corruption of morals and civic ethos, have produced a majority of youth who do not think... well, except they think they're the bees' knees, oh so smart, so very deserving of some more pampering. IF, IF, Republican leadership were smart, they would be spending money on PSA-type ads featuring survivors of communism, those who have left the comfy bosom of Fellow Travelers and now pursue the truth. It isn't really very complicated, why communism fails everywhere, that it always descends rapidly into totalitarianism and a stifling crushing battering of the individual for the collective.

When the Biden administration looked for ways to pay for the president’s expansive social policy bill, it proposed raising revenue by cracking down on $7 trillion in unpaid taxes, mostly from wealthy Americans and businesses. To help find those funds, the administration wants banks to give the Internal Revenue Service new details on their customers and provide data for accounts with total annual deposits or withdrawals worth more than $600. That has sparked an uproar among banks and Republican lawmakers, who say giving the IRS such power would be an enormous breach of privacy and government overreach. Banks and their
