On Saturday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Yasmin Vossoughian Reports,” Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) argued that the $3.5 trillion price tag for the Build Back Better Act reconciliation package “is a modest investment” for an economy the size of America’s.
Torres said, “[T]here’s misconception about the price tag of the Build Back Better Act. The Build Back Better Act, the original draft, it is not 3.5 trillion over the course of a year. It’s over the course of ten years. So, it’s $350 billion. Which, for a $20 trillion economy like ours, is a modest investment. So, I think it’s shortsighted to focus on the price tag.”

Why is this country, with such a huge successful economy, so far in debt? Could it be because it's managed by 2-bit politicians, instead of trained successfly CEO types?.

We currently have a debt of 26 trillion. Now I ask you where the hell is the money? Our roads should be paved with gold for all the "infrastructure" money that has been spent over the years. Our schools should be graduating every child with honors and our economy should be humming with all the inovations that we are developing to make people's lives better. Where is all this money? My guess is in the pockets of these lying politicians who do nothing but extort more and more money from us to furnish their lavish life styles. Ask youself how a dimwith like Maxine has the life she does. What has she produced for you? Has she built a building? Has she fixed your plumbing? the only screwdriver she has ever weilded is the one that screws the American taxpayer. ENOUGH of this. They call for Trump's taxes? At least he has built things, he has created jobs. These people create nothing but misery and pain. Let's have some forensic audits on their assets and holding and all their off shore bank acccts. And really follow the money.

Do any of these idiots know how much a trillion is? They throw these numbers around like M&M's. It’s 1,000 BILLIONS! That’s 1,000,000,000,000, The Debt is 28 of those. It will never be paid down. Just keep handing out the free stuff in order to get votes. At some point, we are going to have to start over.

Here's an idea: both houses of Congress take a modest 96% to 98% pay cut to help support this mess of a bill. (By the way that's why they call it a bill - someone had to pay the 3.5 billion no matter how modest).

So go invest your own money in it, and stop trying to spend mine. Jagoff.

A friend of mine the other night told me that if we paid a dollar every second to pay off the national debt, it would take more than 300,000 years. Now I don't know if that's right, but if it is, the mind set of anyone in D.C. is that the national debt will never be paid off, so why bother to worry about it. They must assume they won't be around when the bill comes due, so it's not their problem.

"Investment" implies some kind of return on the money you are stealing from the taxpayers to give free stuff to parasites. Our only "return" is the privilege of living amongst third world savages who grow fat, dumb and happy and do nothing but demand more, along with respect for their lifestyle, abusive treatment of others outside their cult or skin color.

So, now this is to be used for the next Ten years. Puleeeeze! How about getting bids for the Road and Bridges that need fixing NOW. Then actually USE the money to fix THOSE Roads and Bridges. Every time they want more money from us it's for "Roads and Bridges". But, it's those very SAME Roads and Bridges that need fixing every darn time. NOBODY believes, anymore, that they will ever get fixed. WHERE does the money go? They're not giving any money to the Military, which should be the FIRST place it goes. I think the reason this Bill is having so much trouble getting passed is that the Phones in the Offices of the HOUSE Members are ringing off the Hook with THEIR Voters back home saying DO NOT Vote for that Bill or you are going to lose your job in 2022! Manchin knows that will happen. He would Love to vote yes and help out Nancy, but if he does, he's TOAST!

America abhors socialism/ communism! It never works in any country where it is tried, in pa=t, because it runs out of othe peoples money. Basing such government's income on other people's money it theft any way you look at it. Plus, it is immoral as it reduces most of its citizens into servative with no Rights, no dignity and no hope, while only the tyrannical elites dictate. It kills personal initiative and can only exist by deceit and brute force when there is nothing remaining to steal. Why would America ever be tricked and fall for such tyranny when we have the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights which has proved to protect and defend our personal Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness successfully for hundreds of years?! Freedom isn't free but is secured through blood, sweat and tears as history shows and we dare not be deceived by the lies of political thieves now! Treasure freedom in America! -The rest of the world sure does as evidenced by those who want to move and live here.

This jerk knows better. he's not dumb. He's dishonest.
The debt stands at 28.8 TRILLION dollars.
How many jobs and products will this 3.5 trillion spending package create? My guess it wont create much of anything, making it money wasted.
All it will do is cause inflation. All that money flowing in to the US economy, and nothing to show for it.

On top of the 26 -28-30 trillion dollars of debt, don't forget that there is somewhere between 130 to 250 trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities / entitlements.
Although admittedly our elite rulers are partially addressing that with their covid bioweapons, primarily targeting older people who are collecting Social Security, pensions, Medicare.

3.5 trillion equates to (roughly) $10,000 from every person in the USA. So, idiot Torres, why don't you immediately kick in your personal $10 K...just to prime the pump and show good faith?

Politicians like this never acknowledge that it is $3.5T on top of what we have already spent as a nation. Besides, most of it will not be used for its advertised purpose. Still waiting for my insurance premiums to go down by $2500.

The bill is 2465 pages which would take 49 hours of non-stop reading! None of these clowns has actually read the bill so how do they have the nerve to say it's only a modest investment. BTW, at 3.5 Trillion that is $1,000,000,400 per page. We need to update the late Everett Dirkson's famous statement to A Trillion here and a Trillion there and the next thing you know we are talking about real money. And for toppers, the Congressional Budget office outs the cost of the bill to closer to 5 Trillion. This must be stopped!

“I was raised by a single mother who raised children on minimum wage,” Torres, a member of the New York City Council, said. “I lived in public housing and had to struggle with depression and substance abuse. I never thought life would take me on a journey from the Bronx to Washington, D.C.”
After winning a crowded primary this summer, Torres sailed to a resounding victory Tuesday over his Republican opponent in New York’s 15th Congressional District, a Democratic stronghold centered in the Bronx. Torres, 32, will become one of the first Black, openly gay men to serve in the House, along with Mondaire Jones, the winner Tuesday in New York’s 17th District, to the north of Torres’ district.

PS His district is the East Bronx, one of the smallest districts in the country. Most of his constituents would be on the receiving end of this largesse, not the paying end.

Last time I checked, Representatives are elected for two year terms, Senators for 6 years. Why are we even considering a bill that will lock in massive amounts of spending beyond the terms of office for anyone voting for it? If you want to spend $350 million a year, bring that up for discussion and hold another vote to extend it if you win another term.

Meanwhile, In May 2021, President Joe Biden released a $6.011 trillion federal budget proposal for fiscal year (FY) 2022. The U.S. government estimates it will receive $4.174 trillion in revenue, creating a $1.873 trillion deficit for October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2022.
So, they are raising taxes, and rather than use it to eliminate the Federal budget deficit , are siphoning it off for the progressive dream and asserting it costs $0 .... Once again, who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes?

Government spends Other People's Money. It cannot invest - "investment" implies a potential profitable return on the investment. Of course, politicians get a profitable return in the form of graft and kick backs..
