A common term we use to describe certain folks is ‘Cafeteria Catholics,’ with the most easily identifiable being politicians like Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, and Andrew Cuomo. For issues with which they agree, they hold up Catholic beliefs and cite doctrine to support their political points of view, while simultaneously dismissing the Church’s philosophy regarding subjects with which they disagree. Using government resources to fund any program for the less fortunate and allowing illegal immigrants to pour across our border is what Jesus would have wanted us to do, they tell us. Meanwhile, murdering babies in their mothers’ wombs and

Do the lives of those two black children matter? Yes. And it wasn't a member of the KKK who murdered them. Where are the protests? Two beautiful children, who happen to be black, are dead at the hands of their auntie. They were malnourished and abused. Why don't their lives matter to "the movement"?

Anymore, I'm torn on capital punishment. Only because I'm coming to the belief that spend the rest of one's life in prison is more of a punishment than a quick painless death. I would be happy to change my mind if the execution was performed to match the manner in which the killer murdered their victims.
In this case, this woman should be regularly beaten and starved until dead.

If this doesn’t call for the death penalty, nothing does.

She and her sister who left the kids with her should get the chair side by side.
I really doubt she gets much more than a couple of years if she gets that.

I'm with poster #2, but the problem with 'life in prison' doesn't necessarily mean life in prison. Now it means life in prison or 20 years whichever comes first. A case in point. Last Spring (2020) a group of activists petitioned the Washington state Supreme Court to release all prisoners over the age of 50 to keep them from catching the China flu. By a vote of 5 to 4 the court rejected this. By exactly ONE VOTE Gary Ridgeway, the Green River killer is still in prison. A monster, convicted of killing 49 young women but is thought to have killed 100. Their bodies just haven't been found yet. And another monster, David Rice Lewis who murdered a family of four in a home invasion on Christmas Eve 1985. The mother, father and their two young sons beaten to death for absolutely no reason. So I will definitely be against the death penalty when life in prison DOES mean life in prison.

My only genuine issue with capital punishment is the fact that Texas has not yet appointed ME Lord High Executioner. I think I could do a fine job. Oh, yes; and bring back the public gallows. It’s ecologically sound.

We should think twice about criticizing the Saudis on this one.

I can think of many things worse than death. "Cruel AND unusual" is prohibited, cruel but not unusual is Constitutional. There is room in the system for justice.

Thank goodness they weren't killed by a White Male. That would have been horrible.

One reason that I am pro-death penalty is because anything can be smuggled in and out of prison. Communications sent by prisoners to those outside prison walls are notably dangerous. For example, the Blind Sheikh, who masterminded the ‘93 World Trade Center bombing, smuggled communications from a prison cell to his terrorist followers by way of his attorney Lynne Stewart.

I oppose the death penalty for one reason alone, I don't trust prosecutors with the power of life and death. I was forever transformed by the twice convicted and twice sentenced to death Relando Cruz for the murder of Jeannine Nicarico when they knew it was quite possible he didn't do it. Furthermore the state's attorney declined DNA testing to assure certainty until forced by overwhelming pressure. Turns out, he didn't do it.
Until fabricating or withholding evidence in a death penalty case also carries the death penalty, I will not support it.

There are just too many ways that criminals can escape "life in prison." The Washington state example above is a cautionary tale for us all. The Charles Manson gang were all given the death penalty in California only to have it overturned and commuted to life imprisonment. If they weren't so notorious, they'd have been out long ago, and they still petition to be released. One of these days, they will be. Their victims weren't so lucky - they're all still dead with no opportunity to appeal. Why should their executioners have more rights?

Hell is too good of a place for someone like this. I think the guillotine would be appropriate in her case.

Just put her in the trunk and leave her. After a couple of months, run the car through a crusher and drop into a steel bucket for recycling.
