Benedict Cumberbatch discusses playing
a closeted cattle rancher who falls for
a young man in 1920s Montana

Benedict Cumberbatch is reflecting on playing a closeted cattle rancher who falls in love with a young man in 1920s Montana in his new movie “The Power of the Dog.” The Oscar-nominated actor plays Phil Burbank, a hypermasculine rancher who inspires fear in awe in those around him—a reign of terror that comes from a deeply closeted sexuality. His made-up persona runs into some trouble after his brother (Jesse Plemons) brings home a new wife (Kirsten Dunst) and her queer son (Kodi Smit-McPhee). Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.

Comments:

Films like this would not be made in China or Russia or Afghanistan, but in NAMBLAmerica, such fare is met with high accolades.

Another degrading film I will never see. How much we miss the inspiring films of yesteryear. Thank goodness we have TMCs classic films. I find myself enjoying 50+ year old films and so much of the never-to-be-seen-again high quality acting. Often that subtle moral theme strengthened America and its people. These were much better days.

Who cares? You know this narrative that The Alpha of a homosexual paring is a super-male, is a myth. Male mounting males in animals is to discourage those other males from seeking out the females. A "super Alpha" is all about the females he seeks. A male who seeks only other males is psychologically or physically damaged and is no longer a part of the future gene pool. He might as well be dead, in turns of the future.

If "They" want to spend $100's of millions of dollars to make movies that pander to 2% of the population? Fine...reap the rewards the same way they did with "woke" marvels, DC's, Starwars, Ghost busters...ALL of which tanked or fell way below "expectations" Might as well remake "Out of Africa" as well with a gay Robert Redford part, a lesbian Meryl Streep, maybe Klaus Maria Brandaoer can be Trans...Malik Bowen's Fahah Aden character can be the "Hero" of the Tale.(Though they would NEVER have the Barkely Cole character have a secret Male Somalia lover and die of AIDS rather than Blackwater fever...tooo much chance of a negative interpretation) Meanwhile shows like Yellowstone, Longmire, No country for old men, Hell and Highwater, Unforgiven, even The Ranch, "sell themselves" without artifice or pretension.
