Eight people have died at Kabul airport where thousands of desperate Afghans have clambered onto moving military planes and U.S. troops have fired warning shots into the air amid a chaotic scramble to flee the Taliban. Three stowaways are believed to have plunged to their deaths, with footage showing bodies falling from the underside of a hulking USAF transport jet as it climbed into the skies over the fallen city on Monday. Further images later showed mutilated corpses strewn across a rooftop.

First Saigon and now Kabul. Have we learned yet that you either go in to win quickly, or you don't go in? Have we learned yet that when you leave, it is like pulling your hand out of wet sand....everything goes back as it was before?
Have we learned yet that we have no expertise in nation building? Our own nation is in chaos with corruption in every branch of government, and every agency!

It's probable the worst results from this lack of planning withdrawal will be needless, preventable deaths and incarcerations of up to the 50,000 Afghan people who assisted the U.S. during the past 20 years. It's reported the Taliban knows the identities of these people.

Biden has mismanaged the withdrawal no doubt, but this wasn't going to be pretty even if managed well. Under the best managed circumstances, this would have been a source of great criticism and Trump's Saigon if it happened on his watch.
A form of this, perhaps not so fast and chaotic, became inevitable the day we went in. As some relish in the glee of seeing Biden's epic bungle, let's not lose sight of the bigger picture. Culture isn't so easily irradiated. All cultures are not equal some are better. Simple exposure to better for a few decades doesn't change a culture that took thousands of years to form.
If "winning" was to be defined as eliminating Afghanistan as a potential jump off point or planning site for Islamic terror strikes, one of two things needed to happen if "giong in" was the tactic. Either we occupy in such force that we can keep relentless pressure on any such activity or the people themselves go through some transformation that they take up the mantle of policing their own and potential outsiders seeking a safe haven. The latter is a pipe dream. Unless of course we were to have completely obliterated and rebuilt from scratch which we don't have the stomach for. That leaves us with permanent occupation if "going in" was going to happen at all.
So what should we have done, not so easy is it which is why I'll temper my criticism for the inevitable consequences of how we did do this. Here's an idea. Bring me the head if Bin Laden by a specific date and if that deadline is missed you have 3 days to abandon a given city and then we wipe it off the face of the earth. We drop pamphlets, maybe even blow the hell out of an unpopulated zone to paint the picture. Then we move on to the next city until they deliver Bin Laden. I'm not talking nukes but Dresden perhaps. But what if they don't have him? Then they better go and find him.

This is horrible Desperate people doing desperate things. The Afghan people know how things work in a totalitarian system. In their land of perpetual corruption, there is no such thing as the taliban trying to make nice with the citizenry.

I was only seven in '75. The images of desperate people trying to climb into, putting their children on board planes as they started down the runway has always stuck in my memory. May God have mercy on the innocent. And no, the culture of Afghanistan will never change without its people being baptized. Only then.

Afghanistan has defied every other nation that tried to take over since ancient times and will continue to do so. Here we are, in high-tech 2021; the weapons, communications, and transportation are different, but the barbarity is the same.

Re: #9. We could leave a semi-permanent reminder on this sewer, but we don't have the will. A 15 warhead spread would make the Taliban less likely to cause anyone trouble for an extended period. But there is too great a fear these days of powerful weapons, too much propaganda has flowed.

All this because Biden wanted to spite Trump, and make 9/11 into symbol of loss as well as a day we were attacked. We are seeing Biden for what he is. In his lucid moments he is a hateful anti-American thug (can't say what I want to say) who doesn't care who gets hurt or killed in the process. In his less lucid moments he is completely lost in the dark waters of his own mind unable to comprehend or do anything.
This jerk isn't fit to lead.
