A good read is ‘The Lions of Tsavo’ by Lt. Col John Patterson who managed to finally kill the two lions that ate over a hundred of his railway workers. It took a lot of courage to sit in a tree night after night waiting to get a shot at the man eaters.

So parts of Africa are like Yellowstone, except screwing with the animals isn't really needed to get one killed. Seems it's the people that need protecting, and not the animals. At least the lion is ok.

Man-eaters (should that be person-eaters?) of any ilk prey on humans because: 1) they are old and can't catch/kill their normal prey 2) they have been injured/crippled and can't catch/kill their normal prey 3) they have developed a taste for humans 4) their normal prey is no longer available or there are too many predators per prey. (The Ghost and the Darkness had problems 1 and 2, and possibly 3.) Moving the lion will only take care of one of these problems, so don't go visiting the remote area of the preserve where there is no human habitation. Down thru history, humans have actively eradicated any threat that would keep Little Timmy from returning from the outhouse. It's why all non-domesticated animals avoid humans. It's how small, soft, unarmored, weak humans without claws or large teeth sit at the top of the food chain. So, a fifth reason for man-eaters. Tourists coming by and taking selfies with the cuddly predators leads to predators who have forgotten the lesson above. The tourists go home. The locals are left living with the re-educated predators. Is the lion female? If so, she could teach her offspring to hunt humans.

Not an expert, but kind of surprised that the lion was not content with the first kill. Unless the other two children tried to save the first.
