PORTLAND, Ore. — People who live on Hayden Island say the homeless crisis and crime seem to be getting out of hand. They feel crime is rampant and, according to statistics, they're right. Portland Police Bureau data show crime on Hayden Island is the worst it's been in the last five years. Property crimes like theft, burglary and larceny make up the vast majority. "I don't feel safe," a resident named Judi told KGW. "It didn't used to be like this." Oftentimes, Hayden Island residents say they see stolen kayaks and boats pulled up next to two abandoned military vessels and

I feel for the residents of Hayden Island. Where I used to live in South San Jose became like this, in major part because of CA Prop 47, which changed a lot of felonies into misdemeanors. I NEVER VOTED FOR THAT. Plus, the city councilman who represented the district where I used to live in misrepresented himself during elections. He said all the right things but once in office proceeded to support a very liberal agenda, following in the mayor’s footsteps. He lied to us. Increased crime is the result, and police aren’t going to stick their necks out in today’s political climate. Crime is one of the major reasons why I moved to a rural community in another state. I was driven out. I am not a liberal. And I support my local sheriff!

When the police are stopped from doing their jobs by politics, this is what you get. Think hard about how you vote next time, folks. Until then....enjoy what you have created. FTA:"They formed a neighborhood watch and are nonviolent." LOL! YOU can be as "nonviolent" as you want. But the military has a saying, "The enemy has a vote". What will these nonviolent neighborhood watch folks do if they run into a violent criminal? They will bleed. Remember how George Zimmerman got the heck beaten out of him? By being a neighborhood watch guy in an area that had been experiencing a surge in crime. And if he had not been armed he would have likely been killed, his brains beaten out on a concrete sidewalk by that "poor oppressed little boy" Martin, who was actually a violent thief, much larger than Zimmerman.

If you don't feel safe it's very probably because you're not. If you're not it's very probably due to how you voted and how you treated your now vaporized police. Lock your stuff up and when the next election comes around think before you vote. Your police though won't be back because who wants a job where protecting morons can land you in prison.

President Joe Biden and top administration officials are seeking to downplay the decision from OPEC+ to cut daily oil production by 2 million barrels after steadily decreasing domestic gas prices boosted the president and Democrats' electoral odds heading into the midterm elections. The decision comes shortly after Biden traveled to Saudi Arabia, where the president met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and asked Saudi officials to ramp up production as a means of easing global energy prices amid the war in Ukraine. Publicly, the White House is putting on a strong face in responding to the new cuts. Biden

A week after proposing to levy a new tax on oil companies, California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday called for state legislators to convene in Sacramento for a special session in December to hammer out the plan. In response to a historic surge in gas prices in the Golden State, Newsom last week proposed a tax on oil companies to fund rebates for California taxpayers getting squeezed at the pump. During a press gaggle on Friday, the Democratic governor announced the special session for Dec. 5 — about a month after dozens of new lawmakers will be elected to office. Newsom

First Lady Jill Biden offered a rare personal glimpse into her views on abortion during a political fundraiser in San Francisco on Friday, retelling the story of how her mother helped care for a teenage friend who got an abortion 60 years ago. Biden, who was 17 at the time, said her friend didn’t want to be pregnant, but learned that a doctor would only perform an abortion if she underwent a psychiatric evaluation and was declared mentally unfit. It was the late 1960s, before the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision, and abortion was illegal in Pennsylvania, where she

When gas prices rise, it instantly fuels political rhetoric about price gouging and the need to help motorists pay at the pump. It’s as automatic as pushing the starter button and hearing the engine crank up. As California prices surged in recent days, Gov. Yet gas prices in CA have increased by record amounts. It doesn’t add up,” the governor tweeted. “We’re not going to stand by

As gas prices hit record highs in Los Angeles County on Wednesday, a pledge by OPEC+ to reduce its oil production by 2 million barrels a day brought new concerns about more economic pain to come. California is facing surging oil prices in the wake of shutdowns at several oil refineries that produce a specific grade of fuel for the state. Prices began to creep up in September after months of declines. And unlike the nationwide rise in gas prices over the summer, this most recent spike is mostly confined to California and the West Coast. There was also debate
